surely if i just wire my spark outputs on the db37 directly to the trigger wires on my std coils they will work as that is what they are designed to do isn't it?
i have read through cags post and it seems a bit un-necessary when i already have igniters on here and i can just use them to fire my coils directly.

stevenford_uk 02-19-2007 12:53 PM

sorry i got all confused, i cant use the vb921's and as far as i can see i just need to remove them completely and do the mods cags has done dont i

magnamx-5 02-19-2007 01:04 PM

i think so but like i said im new to MS, 1.8 coils might work as well as they have no built in igniter.

stevenford_uk 02-19-2007 01:37 PM

the 1.6 coils have the separate igniters dont they thats why they are better, the 1.8 coils have the igniter built in dont they.

magnamx-5 02-19-2007 01:48 PM

other way around i believe old chap. PM kags or someone else who knows for sure. to get a better response.

"Ignition Coil problem on ’93 1.8

Left ignition on for a few hours while fitting radio; this burnt out the integral ignitor circuit in the coil pack.

Used £100 New set £200 inc VAT.

History; there was a revision of the coil-pack for the 1.8 – I have seen four wire coil packs on ’93/’94 Eunos cars but 3 wires on ’95 UK car. The new 3 wire version loses the feedback loop from the coils to the ECU – fitting 3 wire coil packs to 4 wire car results in no rev counter; hence the later cars must have a new ECU with rev counter driver – I built a circuit to do this on my car. When it burns out the coil pack casing splits from heat. Later coil packs may be more resistant to this failure. Part numbers...4 wire version: BPE8 18 10XA 3 wire version: BPE8 18 10XB"

so looks like the 1.6 coils have the separate igniters.

i :dunno: man 1.8 didn't come till 1994 though.

stevenford_uk 02-19-2007 02:40 PM

its deffo the 1.6 with the separate igniter, its located by the charcoal can on my eunos

Al Hounos 02-19-2007 05:17 PM

yeah, just wire it up like everyone else does, using the LEDs to charge the stock ignitor. you don't need the vb921 really.

stevenford_uk 02-20-2007 11:12 AM

but they are on there and wired in, would it not be silly not to use them?
creating more work for myself taking them off the board, cos they are wired into the pinouts db3 and db36. hopefully i will have time next week to sort the ms out.

magnamx-5 02-20-2007 11:16 AM

hey man what ever listen to us or dont. it is your choice.

stevenford_uk 02-20-2007 11:50 AM

i am just trying to find out the best way of me sorting this problem out, it will take me a while to do the soldering to the ecu so i want to cut down on the amount i have to do, if i can run the stock coils on the vb921's it will save me a lot of time on wiring and all i will have to do is the cas and spark mods to the board and bypass the std igniters.
i am not trying to undermine anyones advice, i appreciate everything everyone has said and its very very useful to me, its just i cannot get a straight answer if i can use the vb921's
