Post Trouble with startup on megasquirt

I have got the car to run pretty good on a borrowed map, but the car is very hard to start. Basically the car wont start cold, I have to unplug the megasquirt and plug the factory ecu back in until the car warms up a little, then I can plug the ms back in and it will start right up. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Yup. First tell us what MS you are running, and what car this is for.

Ok this is the .msq i am running, if you could tell me what to adjust and how to adjust it I would appreciate it, I am new to the ms and need some help. Boost is good up to 10psi and then it feels like i hit a rev limiter, probably boost protection i guess.

We all go through the same process, for some the learning curve it is steeper than for others, but you really should read all manuals multiple times, seriously.

A good advice, never ever use a borrowed map unless you know what you're doing. And it's pretty obvious you don't. You wouldn't be the first one to blow somthing up (like coils) with the wrong settings. There's so many flavors of Megasquirt that the risk of something going wrong is just too high.

That being said, read all of this from front to back at least a couple of times (really). If you still have questions (probably, I had even more questions after reading it all), than come back and ask them. Better yet, first use the search function, most of them have already been answered. Then start asking.

You didn't say what version you're using (MS1, MS1extra, MS2, MS2extra, MSPNP etc), but here's a couple of links for you:

MegaManual Index
Configuring MegaSquirt-II
Tuning Your MegaSquirt-II (or MicroSquirt)

MS2/Extra Manual Index
MS2/Extra Tuning guide

Ok, here is an update, with some help from another member I have gotten the after startup enrichments and cranking setup so now after a few cranks, the car will start on its own without needing to warm it up with the factory ecu. I have atatched my datalog and was want to get everyones opinion on it if you don't mind.

You need to go through the whole msq. There's a lot of messed up settings.

Your mapdot threshold is too low and it's making your accel enrichments kick in at idle.

Unless it's 100 degrees there, your air intake temps are high. You're either heat soaking the sensor real bad or it's not Easy Thermed correctly. If it's that hot , you should set up the coolant corrected air density.

Your warm up enrichments seem a little high, but they may work for your particular setup.

Idle settings, overrun settings, and dwell settings all leave a lot to be desired of.

I thought your AFR target table was all over the place, till I saw your spark map.

Holy ****, dude! I bet there's a lot I missed You need to go back and fix a whole bunch of stuff.

Time to start surfing threads and referencing the Mega Manual. You need to learn the material so you can tune the car on your own. Nobody can learn for you. Just when you think you've read all you can find, realize that you've completed about 1% of your research!

When I set mine up, I used the review mode to scan through all the tables. When I found something I didn't understand or wasn't sure was correct, I looked it up right away. I tried to make sure I fully comprehended what was read before moving on. That way it was easier for me to stay on top of things. Good Luck!

So you did all that in less than a day and it still doesn't work?

It means he didn't bother to read it.

Honestly, my car is running great now. But believe it or not, I still read the manual.

Sorry, no I haven't read the manual. I am going to start on it tonight and if I have any other questions after that I will consult you guys. I'm not trying to be lazy or anything, I unfortunatly have to work 80-90 hours per week due to the declining housiung market and rarely have time to work on my car. It is easier to have someone explain how to do things than it is to read about them, I have trouble retaining info when I read. I know that is a lame excuse, but thats the reason why i'm asking in your opinion stupid questions.

You picked the wrong forum to get people to babysit you, read the goddamn manual and use search. In case you couldn't reason it out yourself from the posts above, you'll find your answers a lot quicker by actually searching instead of begging for help on the same 10 MS questions that come up every week.

Put your setup in your sig and go lurk more.

As I said in my last reply, I am going to start reading the manual tonight. I won't be asking anymore questions unless necessary. Did you feel it was necessary for you to throw in one more jab.

You need to start with something like the DIY autotune MSQ, change the required fuel, then start tuning. Reading the manual will help significantly.

I think you should try reading the manual.

jk

I think there are a few .msqs on the wiki page.

1. Grab the one most similar to your setup
2. -DO NOT GO BOOSTING AROUND-
3. Do some simple math and change req_fuel if needed.
4. Start tuning and adjusting.
5. ???
6. Profit.
