Miata Turbo Wiki - fan control

All,

I added the fuel pump mod to the ms2 wiki as well as more detail on the fan control mod. It's all info I got from this forum. Something from the assembly page confuses me.

http://miataturbo.wikidot.com/ms2-a
The diagram shows using the middle LED (PM4 - Accel LED) but tells you to use PM5 - warmup led. It is also shown in the tunerstudio photo on the mod page.
http://miataturbo.wikidot.com/ms2-m

Is this wrong? I thought PM5 was used in the ignition mod.

unfortuneatly your image of the settings in TS are wrong... that fan will be running 100% of the time.

Reverant 05-05-2011 08:43 AM

I still don't understand why you guys use 2 resistors and 2 transistors to have inverted spark, when all you need is two resistors.

Braineack 05-05-2011 09:28 AM

It's not even really necessary either way.

heychris 05-05-2011 09:41 AM

I didn't put the tunerstudio photo in. I don't agree with it either. I just didn't want to delete someone else's contribution.

Who controls that? I'd be happy to correct the tunerstudio photo, but it seems like a moderator should delete the misleading info. It certainly mislead me, because I was sure it was PM4 for fan control.

with just two resistors there will be no issues of blowing coils when trying to flash when coil packs\ ignitors hooked into the MS?

This is how I do it. Output is on the left leg of R28 as pictured there.

I've got my LEDs wired up with Reverant's spark mod and the fan relay control on the middle LED (D15). I've just checked and the fan control in TunerStudio is definitely on PM5

Braineack 05-05-2011 11:08 AM

considering you have the fan control on WLED, and PM5 is WLED, it makes sense.

PeteNMA 05-05-2011 11:16 AM

But that's what the wiki shows, fan control from D15 and software control on PM5. I don't understand the OP's issue it seems?

heychris 05-05-2011 01:16 PM

My issue is that the wiki shows d14 and d16 for the ignition circuit.

d14 - ignition LED - PM3
d15 - accel LED - PM4
d16 - warmup LED - PM5

http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/spare.htm

I understand that you technically could use which ever you want for whatever you want. It just seems to me like doing it a single way makes it easier for those new to MS. They've got enough to worry about.

The ms2 assembly page shows using d15 (Accel LED, PM4) and connecting it through the harness at IAC1B.
It also shows ignition using d14 and d16 then going out through ign, IAC2B

The Ms2 mod kits page shows configuration in tunerstudio. This wasn't me and I don't like deleting other people's work. My suggestion is that a moderator change it to show fan control on PM4 to make it correspond to the assembly page. I also didn't put up the assembly page. I just noticed that there was a conflict in what was being said.

I did however put the following note in "Please note if you use the middle LED you need to configure PM4 instead of PM5".

On my last assembly I didn't double check it, I just went with what it said and it was wrong.

I'm just trying to be helpful.. it's not really that big of a deal. (unless you are a noob and in way over your head! I've been there before)

PeteNMA 05-05-2011 01:18 PM

I know what you mean, the wiki seems helpful at first but actually it's got very little solid information.

However, I am using the middle LED and controlling it on PM5, that's why I'm confused, especially as the V3 PCB schematics show D15 as the warmup LED and D16 as the Accel LED

which is correct.

http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/v3components.gif

LED17 = D14 = PM3 = IGN
LED18 = D15 = PM5 = WARMUP
LED19 = D16 = PM4 = ACCEL

the document you linked is wrong.

heychris 05-05-2011 07:32 PM

It looks like other have been confused as well...

They did a horrible job of documenting all the output's labels.

For example:
ADC1 = JS5
PE0 = JS7

Let me find the good chart to use.

QFT.

I've not messed with the innards of my MS for a while and decided to add a new output a few weeks ago. Could I work out which fucking pin was related to what? Could I fuck. I look in TS and check which pins are not being used, but none of those are labelled the same as in the megamanual. Everything has 3-4 different labels, it's a frigging joke, and one of the things about MS that really pisses me off.

:vash:

Let me find the good chart to use.
Please do.

here's a couple

JS0 = PT6 = IAC1
JS2 = PT7 = IAC2
JS7 = PE0
R1 = PE1
Fidle = PM2

Reverant 05-06-2011 05:26 PM

JS0 = PT6 = IAC1
JS2 = PT7 = IAC2
JS4 = ADC7 = DIYPNP ADC2
JS5 = ADC6 = DIYPNP ADC1
JS7 = PE0
JS11 = PA0
R1 = PE1
FP = PE4
Fidle = PM2
INLED = PM3
ALED = PM4
WLED = PM5
