Well mine is moved. Will have results tomorrow, hopefully I can drop the temps below 80* once the fan kicks on...i haven't seemed to be able to do this yet, even after I start cruising again.

wonderfullness!!!!

my typical drive to work hardly will even activate the fans, this morning was no exception. During my drive my intake temps hovered at 70-72°. Ambient was somewhere at 68-69°. Never increased at any light, even the 5 minute one I always start to heatsoak at. My highest temperature at idle was 73°. Once I boost I can actually see the temperatures increase to 80° by redline, as soon as I left off, the temperatures instantly dropped as well back down to 73°.

So I'm happy, no more +90° temps at idle and watch my AITs drop when I hit boost. Now I can actually see what's going on. Should have done this a long time ago, but I'm so lazy.

Scott did you just simply JB weld the bung to the charge pipe? If it was that easy then I will move mine as well. Especially since there huge reduction in the temps you are seeing.

yep, my last has been JB welded as well for some time now.

Anyone know the thread pitch for that sensor?

3/8" iirc.

Awesome, and thanks for the thread pitch info. I will need to get a new bung since my original one is welded on.

I am assuming that I will need to redo the IAT corrections as well? That isnt a real biggie if I have to change them.

3/8" NPT (tapered) to be precise.

I just went and got a 3/8 bung from a hydraulic shop that is right around the corner from my house. I was referred there since the local speed shop was out of the bungs. I can't tell you how many times I have driven right by there and never realized it was there.

Good info. I installed mine just before the throttle body and it was seeing over 150 degrees at a practice autox. I had to whip out the laptop and adjust the correction for it to hot start. Looks like I'll be moving it out of the engine bay as well.

damn its easy for you turbo guys.

Mine's in the TBI. I plan to built a heat shield because: 1. I like building stuff and 2. I don't know how to patch the hole it would leave behind.

Braineack 08-29-2008 09:44 AM

friction tape. coupler and clamp. weld. gum.

mine old bung has a spare AIT sensor in it currently until i do something with it.

My 1st time with JB Weld was, um, interesting....Remember the crap you got about the JB Weld on on the oil pan? Yeah, it looks something like that. BUT! It holds, no leaks, it will be under the car and out of sight, so who cares.

patsmx5 08-29-2008 04:16 PM

FYI Mine is right before the TB and I too see 150-170*F temps. 130 is the lowest after it's warmed up and I'm cruising. I'm gonna put my sensor in the outlet of my IC like big pimpin' did. Well, I will whenever I get all the couplers I need to make my charge pipes.

miataspeed1point6 08-30-2008 12:19 PM

I tried building a heat shield for mine. Didn't work. The metal just heats up and warms up the sensor. It does run better though. I'll pick up a bung and relocate it after finals.

I'm thinking that extra bung is a good spot for WI?
