Default MS2 - Can't make real time changes?

Is this not a capability of MS2? Every time I want to change something, it wont take effect until burned. Burning shuts off the car.

Super annoying, and not so fun for the starter.

Hydra 2.5 didnt require a complete burn, would let you make infinite changes as long as you were connected. You "burned" when you were done satisfied with how the car was running. Same with Haltech.

Having to burn just to see what your changes will do is a bit annoying.

Are we doing something wrong and this unit DOES have this capability?

burning should not shut off the car. it makes the car lose power for a split second, but usually keeps working.
or get an ms3 and have completely invisible burns

also I don't remember how my ms2e was, but this ms3x does allow all changes to happen real time and burning only makes it permanent like you're talking about with the other systems

Ok well... burning is stalling the car.

How do I make it not do that? Moving to ms3 not an option at the moment and also not necessary.

It's an ms2e.

Actually, I dont care if burning stalls the car. I just want to be able to see what the changes do BEFORE burning.

you probably have crappy idle settings or something since the car can't recover.
what happens when you hit burn and hold the rpm's higher? or are drivign?

Burning is secondary to my main complaint. I literally can't make changes without burning. I can **** my ve table to hell and back and nothing happens until I hit burn.

Goes like this:

Gosh I hope pulling this back works.
*burn*
Nope, needs more.
*burn*
Little more.
*burn*
Whoops, too much.
*burn*
And now my WUE tweaks. Bring it down.
*burn*
I farted.
*burn*
I'm hungry.
*burn*
Hi Steve, how're you doing?
*burn*

It's annoying.

Right. I don't know if this is normal or not. I HOPE it's not and this is just due to general Megasquirt noob-ness.

But if this is how it works, I find that pretty much inexcusable.

I know ms3 isnt like this, i've seen Thenuge mess with his, but I find it hard to believe that this would be a feature that took until ms3 to be put into production. He couldnt figure out how to do it either.

what are the exact specs on your ms2?
who built it?
what mods done to it?

there's a gigantic variation of different ms2's out there, everything from ancient self built non pnp versions to the fancy ms2e's and mspnp2's and diypnp's

It's an ms2e, running sequential fuel, wasted spark. Gslender idle up thingymabobber. Dunno who built it.

Suppose I should bring the carpet back and see what's back there?

I think it's usb native. Let me see what I can figure out.

VE and ignition tables do not require a burn as they are always in RAM.

Other options do require a burn since the MS2 only has 4K of RAM and it can't hold every option in the RAM to test.

We were messing with VE. Seemed to require a burn to see changes. Same for WUE percentages.

Never had this issue with VE and ignition tables. Everything else does require a burn, and possibly a restart. I usually tap the throttle and let go, wait until it hits overrun fuel cut, and then quickly switch the ignition off and on again.

WTFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Seriously... what in the hell is the point of the secondary connector if it's all the same damn color, and unlabeled? I also found a vamp clamp or two, which makes me displeased.

Looks kinda like one of those vamp clamps is going from the orange clusterfuck (one wire, the only wire being used out of that clusterfuck) to an all-black harness with a plug on the end. Probably alarm bullshit, knowing my luck. BLAH.

That looks exactly like the DIYPNP I had Scott build for me, all the way down to the unlabeled orange wires on the silver connector

In my case he set up the orange wires for wideband 12v, heater ground, sensor ground and signal. There was a tiny scrap of paper in the shipping box that had the pinout that I nearly threw out. May whatever god you believe in have mercy on your soul trying to figure those out.

I recognize that bung/iat sensor as well. It's on the pipe between TB and IC.

So i guess i need to trace the wideband wiring on this thing and see where it's going to, because with only one wire on the orange clusterfuck being used, i somewhat doubt it's being used for wideband stuff, and the Megasquirt IS seen a wideband input.

I found posts from the guy who built this referencing a DIYPNP, so pretty safe to ASSume at this point that it's a Brain built DIYPNP.

I have a feeling i'm going to need to tear apart the interior of this thing and see what's going on. Seems to have a very large alarm/keyless entree system. There's two switches and two lights in the dash/lower dash that seem like they do things, i'm just too chickenshit to push them and see what happens. Don't have any sort of key fob for it.

Got an answer back from the guy that built the car:

Quote:
1) Megasquirt- The MS terminology can be very confusing. This is an MSII DIYPNP built by Brainiack. It was upgraded to have the "gslender" AC idle up mods. With the native MS, the status of the AC switch is not taken into the MS software (i.e. it does not know if the AC is on or off). With the "gslender" mod, the MS software detects the AC being turned on/off and adjusts the idle accordingly. This also comes with many other improvements in the idle circuitry as well. This is a HUGE improvement over the bases MSII. You should google "gslender' over on miataturbo.net.

The MSII is also wired for boost control and controlling the VICS

So, EO2K, can you make changes to anything and see the effects without having to burn first?

Yep, that's a GM IAT. Mine was setup to use the factory IAT wiring pair so I would imagine yours is too.

What car and what wideband are you working with here?

If this is an AEM UEGO there is a chance someone decided to get cute and run both grounds elsewhere and tap 12v off something under the hood or dash. While I and may other folks around here would say "you are doing it wrong" technically this would work, but I would expect a stupid ground offset between TS and what the gauge is reading. Chasing the wires on the AEM shouldn't be that bad: 2 one of them will have continuity to chassis ground (heater ground and sensor ground) one of them will have battery voltage as 12v source and by process of elimination, the one hooked up to the MS will be signal.

Damn you and your ninja edit!

I don't have the DIYPNP anymore, but I remember a burn would cause a solid hick-up where the car would almost die, but wouldn't die completely because my idle settings were pretty well sorted out. Its been more than a year so I couldn't tell you what did or did not require a burn. The car didn't completely die when burning so I just burned everything every time I made a change.

It's a 95.

Does have an AEM wbo2. TS and gauge seem to agree with each other.

Unfortunately, what you just described means that the wideband is connected to the megasquirt via.... a goddamn vamp clamp.

I'm gonna need to tear this thing apart.

But srsly goddamnit: Make changes to anything without burning? Is this a thing on yours?

edit:

hahahahah you ninja edited my ninja edit!

Thanks!

Idle is rock solid on this thing so maybe i just need to make sure all the wiring everywhere is good before i worry about it. Or just tap the gas before burning.

Ungh! Ok, on second thought I fucked some of that up... I've been looking at the MTX-L and LC-1 recently and obviously the wiring is different.

Power, Ground, 0-5v Signal and useless Serial output. So you are looking for a ground and 12v source.

Edited above for clarity/continuity

Ok so when I find it, I want to move it all to the orange clusterfuck?

Or, because everything seems to working on the wideband front, just leave it and make sure the connections aren't jank?
