Default ms2 users present and future, who wants more io??

... and can/will put their money where their mouth is?

a friend just linked me to this thread :

http://www.msextra.com/viewtopic.php?p=176869#176869

Jean is looking to make a new board to house a ms2 processor at a very low price (35 us or so) that will talk through can network to another ms2 chip and share the load.

this means shift lights tachos etc etc etc can be driven by an external board taking away the impediment to using lots of pins for fuel and ignition.

in a nutshell, sequential fuel and cop with enough io.

jean has written sequential code for his siamese mini engines, sooner or later that will be main stream and will mean beautiful running with huge injectors and large boost on small engines.

if you are willing to put your name forward to buy one, please post and say so. serious people only. have a look at his site. he already makes p&h drivers and other nifty things. good quality stuff.

hes agreed to design it already. 6 people appear interested so far, if you are also keen, the number he specced for production is 10. this would be a bare board with no components. you will need a ms2 card for it (in addition to the one running your engine) and the componentry on it on top of the price of the board.

for the hard core diyer like me, its a very good thing :-)

I should have updated this some time ago, but i've been really busy sorting out some other stuff.

Bruce vetoed Jeans idea. So no DIY spec MS2 I/O expander for us :-(

There is an illegal option for it, but I'm not going to say anything about that here.

[/Thread] :-(

It's likely that the GPIO board will be out pretty soon, providing much the same function and at a similar price point.

firstly the point wasn't to provide functionality. it was to provide flexibility. the GeneralPIO board has lots of highly specialised circuits covering it. while some of these are useful to most people, the balance just take up space that could be better put to other purposes as a keen DIY EMS user/builder/tuner. the gpio board will be a good product no doubt, but for some its not the right product.

Note one guy posted in there saying "i'm buying 2 gpios, but i want one of these aswell anyway." or words to that effect. Also note that the hardcore DIY type that would touch one of these with a barge pole arent the bulk of the ms userbase anymore. ie. it wouldnt have hurt gpio sales. (esp considering it wouldnt be promoted like the gpio will be)

secondly, define similar :

140 - 150US + PaP for the GPIO when they finally bother to release it.
90US + PaP for an MS2 card + maybe 30US + PaP for the alternative solution.

It's comparable, and i may be splitting hairs, but thats 10 - 30US different.

Really though, the main point was the flexibility.
