MS2E HELP!
Hey guys, I went to hook up my MS2E I bought from REV for my MSM.
I got everything hooked up, but the problem I'm having with my AEM UEGO. I had it hooked up the in car along with my boost gauge first, then I ran the blue wire to the MS2E. So Power and Ground came from Radio. Went Blue wire to the serial wire Rev supplied, in the MS2E, and it wouldn't read inside TS. Next I reread the instructions, and I wired the Wideband to the MS2E (Black/Yellow for Ground, and White/Red for power) and my wideband wouldn't come on. I checked it with my tester and there is power on the B/Y and W/R!!! I went ahead and grounded the wideband to the B/G and the wideband came on. My laptop is currently charging right now, so I haven't had a chance to see if it works with TS yet. Any suggestions?? |
I'm confused just reading that...
I have the same MS2E as you but don't use the AEM UEGO so assuming the DB37 pinouts are the same (I use the AEM Inline UEGO); 1. The AEM UEGO says to source 12V switched @ 10amp. So you shouldn't get your power from the MS2E (only 5a internal fuse). So source your 12V elsewhere. --- Lighter connection maybe 2. MS2E DB37 Pin 2 (BLACK/YELLOW) --- BLACK out of the AEM UEGO 3. The MS2E DB37 Pin 4 (Yellow) --- WHITE from the AEM UEGO 4. The AEM UEGO BLUE goes unconnected Don't think I forgot anything. Don't you have a pinout from Rev for the DB37? |
Hey,
REV told me to connect the wideband BLUE to the serial connection. I found the problem, it was in the connector the B/Y was either not soldered, or bad solder joint. A youtube video, and trip to home depot to buy a soldering gun fixed that. Wideband is now powering up, but still isn't displaying in the TS. I did get base ignition setup, but on the timing display is fluctuating. I did a quick log to show, is the timing normal?? https://www.dropbox.com/s/strk5vnehe...19.31.msl?dl=0 |

My instructions says that it's not the preferred method |
My instructions are different.. I preordered my MS2e when Rev was developing it. My instructions are from early 2013. I'd post them but its obvious he has updated them and I don't want to supply outdated/bad information. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.

I can't wait to get tuning though.... |

My instructions says that it's not the preferred method In the interim, you can hook it up "the old way" that works. Or not. Edit: I'm curious how you connected the one BLUE wire from the gauge to the DB9 connector. Picture maybe? |

No big, I'm just glad you tried. I sent REV a PM, hopefully he gets back to me soon.

Well, looks like you've got the latest MS2E from Rev. Guess you'll have to contact him...

Picture maybe? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1426727942 I think I have the solution. Pin number 5 here needs a ground. I'm assuming a chassis ground. So I think the MS is expecting ground from pin 5? I'm going to give it a go tomorrow in the morning. I've put my car back to stock to drive it home. Also can someone take a look at my log for the ignition advance? It continual bounces around (and I'm assume that's right, since the RPM's are jumping, ignition should advances to correlate with the RPM's). |
It seems you need to enable something in the CAN settings in Tunerstudio also. Not sure what as I don't use the CAN settings.
Maybe someone else can chime in. |
Did I include a blue cable on the DB9 I sent you?
|
Yes.
|
For clarity, can you please take a picture of the blue wire coming out of the DB9, as connected to the ECU and on the AEM?

MS2 AEM
Black Yellow Black Red White Red Blue Blue Ignore the white. The white is coming from the wideband, but when I was running the wires I was unsure if I needed white or blue, so I just ran both of them. The white is UNCONNECTED. |
The blue wire coming out of the DB9, is it on pin 2? (the pins are numbered if you look closely).
|
Yes it is. I'll check on the MS side of it as well in a minute.
|
I took a look at the MS side, and pins 2 and 5 are hoked up.
|
Those are correct.
I tested the digital input with an LC-1 and it worked, so I'm not sure what's up. You can connect the yellow wire from the DB-37 to the white wire from the AEM in the meantime to get an AFR signal. Then go to Fuel Settings -> EGO Control and set 1st EGO sensor port to Local. |
Went in and did it that way, got AFR working. Thanks a lot. Time to give this tuning business a shot.

Hey guys...
Another problem.... So the past few days I've been getting an error with the ms2 while in TS. Its an error that more or less says the CAN1 (the enhanced board) will randomly disconnect and I'll lose all of my settings. So the car will drive then the alternator will stop charging, along with AC and fan controls. I thought it might be an issue with my USB to serial, but I tried another one and it wasn't the problem. I thought it might just be an issue with the laptop, so I got everything setup and saved, and my wife and I headed to Dallas (three hour drive for me). Got about halfway and it did it. Keep in mind I did not have my laptop hooked up. Fortunately it wasn't too hard to go back to stock on the side of the road. Got a jump and we were back on the road. Drove the rest of the trip just fine, so I know its not an issue with the alternator. Any ideas?? |
Loose connection someplace? I would dive under the dash and make sure all the connections are solid.

Unfortunately it's not. Didn't do it at all with the stock ECU in place...
