MS3-Pro with 8' wiring harness

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1357137100

The MS3-Pro is our newest standalone engine management system. We've had several of them being tested on Miatas already, and we're now ready to offer them for sale to the general public. Some highlights of its feature list:
  • Native support for NA, NB, NC ignitions
  • Closed loop VVT control
  • Rally style anti-lag
  • Supports speed density, alpha-N, MAF based fueling, and multiple strategies to blend between them
  • Traction control
  • Up to 12 independent injector outputs
  • And a lot more!

Price is $1199 with an 8' harness.

"it will be released sometime in 2013"

Comes out Jan 2nd.

You guys don't mess around

Quick question: the wiring harness you talk about, is that a pnp one or generic that one would have to modify to fit their year?

Braineack 01-02-2013 09:36 AM

I had two weeks to make a harness for mine; I'm so lazy.

I believe the harness that comes with it is a generic harness. You could always pick up the DIYBOB and build a PNP harness with it.

Braineack 01-02-2013 10:58 AM

It's generic. there's 8' of wire on each of the two connectors you see on the MS3pro. One has integrated USB input, the other a serial.

You'll want to get a DIYBOB to complete the harness for most "PNP" installs. you can then put your MAP sensor inside the proto area of the BOB, which is what I plan on doing. Maybe I'll do it today and show you.

do it

DO IT

So I can be jelly:(

Braineack 01-02-2013 11:28 AM

challenge accepted.

Matt, am I correct in thinking that the serial cable port and/or the USB port can pull off the internal datalogs on the SD card inside?

Reverant 01-02-2013 12:09 PM

Yes it can, albeit it will take ages to pull significant amounts of data off the SD card through the serial/USB (about 72 seconds for each MB of datalog).

Actually it was released on Dec 31, 2012. We just didn't post on web forums until Jan 2. :brain:

If it didn't happen on the forums, it DIDN'T HAPPEN:giggle:

I think this is how I'm going to do the MAP sensor. I can put the resistor and caps I need in there easily. This version of the connectorboard on the BOB doesn't have the proto area the last I had in my possession had so I'm just going to use the 12 pin connector pins, since I wont need it; I already have the spare 16 pin to populate with spares i/o's.

Is that what that extra circuit board is for? Ive spent the last year and a half second guessing myself for leaving it out. lmfao

Braineack 01-03-2013 09:01 PM

it's for anything. the above i put a high side driver circuit in it.

Can ya share photos or implementation details of this?

High side driver circuit:

For use in 1.6 Miata, the fuel pump out pin goes to "VTEC Out from MS" and "VTEC Out" is your +12V to backfeed the fuel pump circuit.

gslender 01-05-2013 12:15 AM

Was kinda wondering how this was put into a DIYBOB board? I'm using a solid state relay instead... But this might be cheaper?! Not much though.

I do something different now: I just send the fuel pump out to 2O, then jump the corresponding pin on the AFM connector to the fuel pump relay.

Harness is 98% complete. I dont have written down my 16-pin connector pinout, so I need to go pull my harness and match up the wires.

I have my: 2 extra fuel outputs, two spark outputs, o2 IN, boost OUT, a spare 12v, ground, VVS IN, and knock IN.

Rough idea what the harness looks like:

I would have finished this a while ago, but I was slowed by the new connectors and the labeled wires which don't necessarily match the function of the ms3pro; yet?

gslender 01-05-2013 05:34 PM

Sounds cool. My ms3pro is also going to be rewired for a BOB so would be good to closely follow your lead so share any more details as you can!

G

Braineack 01-05-2013 06:02 PM

not much else to it. but now i just realized i didn't run the wire for there map sensor.

You got a beta harness which was made with what we had on-hand. We didn't have the real deal MS3-Pro wiring in yet. All production release MS3-Pro wiring harnesses have correct, MS3-Pro specific wiring.

I figured as much, and why i said yet. No issue, I just went by the handy dandy pinout cheat sheet on the underside of the unit.

I also referred to the stellar installation manual to figure out what to put my inputs and outputs on for launch/ac/boost/etc. Kudos to that documentation.

My harness is ready to install:

One thing I forgot to mention, I really like how you decided to go with "digital input 1-2-3" as oppossed to "launch in, datalog in, table switch in"

If those inputs only had one function and one only, sure it makes sense, but it gets confusing after a while to say, "I have VVT on nitrous 1, and a/c in on tableswitch, and tableswitching on datalog in..."

Right now I have A/C on digital in 1, clutch on digital in 2, VSS on digital in 3, knock on knock 1. So much easier. I still put my a/c out on a spare injector channel, just cause I'm used to it, but maybe if I were to do it again, I'd just use a spare high current out.

Ben 01-07-2013 11:54 AM

You're welcome. ;)

We're also working with Phil to allow the user to "tag" I/O with custom names. So in TunerStudio you could label Digital In 1 "AC Input", so anywhere TunerStudio references the pin, it would be called "Digital 1 In AC Input" and so on.

Braineack 01-07-2013 12:01 PM

oh i like that idea.

Where's the bowdown smiley.

My one bugbear with MS is the freaking naming of pins and outputs etc. Thankfully I note that the devs are also standardising all that too!

curly 01-07-2013 05:52 PM

Didn't realize how small this was. Bob needs to go on a diet. What's the head phones Scott, knock?

Ben 01-07-2013 06:23 PM

The 2.5mm jack is the serial port connector on the beta harnesses. Regular production harnesses use a 9 pin plug that can be removed and then replaced with a waterproof cap.
