Hey Loki, not to step on Jerry's toes or anything, but if you have a little extra coin, get the Innovate XD gauge with the LC. It's a bit on the expensive side, but also gives a clear, real time readout of the LC output, and any error conditions that may occur. It also has a calibration button on it, making recal easy. I do not regret getting mine, and I'm the cheapest bastard on this board.

You'll want the AIT sensor, with the correct bung. Get the mild steel if you have steel pipes, and the aluminum if you have aluminum pipes. I got the mild steel, which MIG'd just fine to my "aluminum" JIM-B throttle pipe.

PS, I had to pay more plus sales tax. So you suck.

Unless im reading that wrong isnt that an extra $200? I have the money i just dont know if its worth it... but i guess if something gets screwed up i would like to know.

 

Loki-- your list looks right assuming your using steel IC pipes.

As for the gauge.. I really like having one myself, and the XD-16 is the most expensive, but as Ben said it's the only true digital gauge that Innovate offers (the DB gauges use an analog signal, and translate that to a digital readout) meaning it's the only one that can provide error codes and allow for re-cal from the gauge panel. It is $200 for the gauge so it's a bit pricey and I can't make the call for you-- As Ben stated he's as cheap as they come () and you saw his comments... so you can make the call. You can always add the XD-16 later too though it's a few bucks extra that way.

 

Yeah it's every bit as expensive as the LC, which sucks, but there have been a couple of times where I found the gauge INVALUABLE. I can think of two such times easily: When I was dealing sensor overheats, and the time my LC-1 decided to recalibrate while driving. However because I was alerted to what was happening, I was able to make it home w/o incident or damage. It also will tell you when the sensor is heating up. I believe if you have any analog gauge, the analog gauge will read full rich during warm up. Which isn't very helpful when you're trying to tweak your cold start fueling.

Also what is neat, though in a tech-geek kind of way, you can make any of the gauge's LED outer markers light up any color. I believe the default wb gauge markers are green when rich, fading to white around stoich, then fading to red as it gets lean. The color changes are gradual, meaning you can know ballpark AFR from the color. I took it a step further and made my WOT boost targets (11.8-12.0:1) blue. So if I got full throttle, I don't have to actually watch the gauge, just have to see blue in the corner of my eye. And if it's not blue, get out of it. That made tuning my FMU real easy, without having to keep the laptop in the car.

<edit> also, if you were planning on getting a narrowband gauge, take $50 off the price of the xd to make the comparison fair

<double edit> the xd has a light sensor on it. gets brighter in sunlight and dim at night. so it doesn't blind you at night. It's wonderful. I HATED my previous $50 nb at night. It would blind the crap out of me, so I ended up taping an index card over it. No joke.

 

+1 on adding the gauge. I originally bought just the LC-1 and bought a used XD off ebay.
