ZOMG, WHAT DO YOU SEE UNDER com ports IN 'DEVICE MANAGER' WHEN THE CABLE IS PLUGGING INTO LAPTOP?

Ben 08-05-2010 01:59 PM

We have vista on 2 of our tuning laptops; it works fine. Jerry has 7 on his new tuning laptop, which also works with MegaTune and TunerStudio without any issue I'm aware of.

Magna, what type of MegaSquirt do you have? What type of computer? Does it have a 9 pin serial port, or are you attempting to use a serial to usb adapter? If there's an adapter involved, what adapter is it?

Plug in your usb or serial cable to the laptop. Go to your device manager. If you're unsure how to get there, you can simply type "device manager" in the search box that pops up with the windows menu. Then go to Ports (COM & LPT) and push the little + sign next to it to open that menu. Take a screen shot of what you see here.

I have had issues in the past with shitty drivers for Vista x64 and USB->Serial adapters. Try finding newer drivers for the adapter. This issue has come up on MT.net plenty of times before.

or just buy the correct usb/serial convertor that works in 64bit. like the one diyautotune.com sells.

1 Attachment(s)
device manager has 0 com ports computer is a gateway 6860 Fx I am not using any adapter. the usb out is native to the MS just like adam made it for me.

I did a system roll back and reinstalled the drivers fresh and now it works i geus it was just a case of vista or my MS not wanting to work properly. Maybe i missed a popup in the device setup or something initialy who knows botom line is it works now and that is all i was worried about thx for the help and hazing.
