Well hate to revive this again. But I still can get a tach. Is there anyway I can run the tach straight out of the MS into the dash?

Yes. Run a line from the tachout either on the stock harness or the extra plug to the dash. Do this with a ~4' piece of scrap wire and a couple paper clips temporarily. If you have no tach, it's either your cluster (test with stock ecu) or your MS (send out for repair)

Ok I know there's a screw on the back of the cluster that the tach signal runs to. Can I run it to that? And will I have to change tachout in the ms settings?

see post #24.

you would have to first sever the conection to IG- from whatever is grounding it out. (probably the ignitor)

because even if you connect the tachout from the MS directly to the dash, and signal will be grounded and dump to ground.

at least that's what I think will happen.

i got it figured out! When I did the 1.8 swap I swapped the signal wires on the coil so my spark plugs would fit. I swapped them back and boom I gotta tach. Thank you for your help Braineck!

sorry to revive this, but what did you have backwards exactly? I'm tracking a similar issue. The two 3-pin connectors to your coils or the spark plug wires on your coil?

MeOtter 08-21-2018 10:07 AM

When I installed the coils I swapped the signal wires from side to side. So I could use the same spark plugs. It did not allow me to send a tech signal to the dash. After I swapped it back and added the resistor it came back.

Can you clarify your terminology?

when you say "swap signal wires from side to side" do you mean:

1. Swapping the two 4 pin coil connectors?

2. Swapping wires within the 4-pin coil connector?

3. Swapping high voltage spark leads on the coil?

4. Some meaning I haven't described above?

Thanks again for the help.
