Default Noob Tuning Help...

Hey guys, new here, recently got my 1.6 up and running with a turbo and megasquirt. I’ve been having a bit of trouble tuning, i’m running stock injectors (for now) with a diypnp built by a member of a Facebook miata group. The car runs and drives great, cold start idle is a little lean but i’ve been tuning WUE automatically so it’s been improving. The main problems i’m having are when the car is warm/hot. When it’s hot, sometimes the car will idle around 500 rpm do a few seconds and then recover..Sometimes it will do this for five minutes when already warm until HOT. It also has trouble starting, it seems to start, and then rpm drops and car will die or almost die, but i can keep it running if i feather the throttle. I auto tuned idle, so i will work on tuning that manually first. Any other things i should check? Not sure how to attach an MSQ.

Where is the IAT sensor located?

It is getting heat soaked by the radiator. Put it closer to the intercooler where it is not behind the hot radiator. It reads incorrectly when it is behind the hot radiator

Moved it to right after intercooler, hopefully that helps some. Any idea why my idle after start raises, then goes down low like it’s gonna stall, and then recovers? Ve table maybe? I haven’t touched anything else except WUE and a little bit of AE

Post a log of the occurrence. You can look at idle duty cycle, AFR, spark, and any enrichments that may be affecting the idle speed. If there's a trend that IAT consistently raises while idle lowers (or some other trend like that) then you can start to put together that either the MAT correction is tuned incorrectly (excessively richening or leaning) or the sensor is falsely recording high (enriching when not necessary).

So i moved the IAT to right after the intercooler, out of engine bay, no change. It seems in my log that during/right after the car catches starting, it’s lean, like 18 afrs, but in my log, the car didn’t stall. Sometime it will actually lean out depending on how long it’s been sitting. Then i’ll drive it a bit, and it will go away and idle like it should.

bump? still have the problem..will idle really low at like 500 rpm with 12 afrs..When im driving right after the issue happens, if i pull the gas pedal out with my foot the idle will drop to 500 rpm and Afr will richen.

Post a log and your tune, we can't really help you this way.
Have you found your idle valve's operating range?

Bump, stillhave the problem. Tuned for open loop now, adjusting pwm voltage compensation, messed with MAT correction a little bit, but the problem still persists. Only after sitting for 15min to an hour it will idle at 500 rpm and richer than normal afrs. Cleaned TB but not ISCV yet, my pcv valve grommet is broken, anything else it could be? Stumped.

Also, it sounds like he's tried to upload a log. It seems like uploads are broken lately and you'd have to use something like dropbox to share the log.

Not sure how to post a log, but in my log it seemed like my injector pulsewidth during the occurance was around 3-3.2 while normal (good) idle was around 2.7-2.9. Could this be affecting my idle?

You may need to set up a Dropbox account, upload the files there, and post a link to the files on Dropbox.

Update: Problem fixed! Was an air valve (side of intake manifold), with clogged coolant passages. I just deleted it with a block off plate and added a few numbers in the Pwm Duty below 70*F to account for the loss of air. Just in case anyone has this problem, check your air valve!!
