Default ping/knock at idle?

so I plan on boost in the future so I thought id start with a mspnp2 and get the thing running nice and smooth before doing anything else. its a 99, bone stock. I installed the ms and loaded the tune that comes with it and checked base timing which was good where it was. I also filled it with 93 because ms said the base tune was setup on 93.

The car has 3 issues. first, its hard to start and idles low (575-600) and sometimes dies. second, any time I increase the throttle it stumbles a little, like giving it a little gas to set off, or going from half to full throttle suddenly. I think this has to do with accel enrichment, but I don't know how to properly set it up yet. third (and this is the one im really worried about) it sounds like its pinging at idle! not sure how that's even possible, but its a clear rattle that sounds just like ping (wasn't there with stock ecu so I know its not an actual rattle). it also does it if I rev it a bit with half to full throttle, then goes away when at a constant rpm. now when I first fired up the car the it didn't ping at all, but after I drove home and opened the door I noticed it. oh, also the throttle position is showing a little off in tunerstudio. it shows -3.3% closed and 96.7% open. not sure if that would cause any issues?

the first two issues im not terribly worried about, ill learn how to tune that stuff in time, but the third will ruin my engine if I don't fix it soon. any help is highly appreciated

is the oil low?
if your timing is sync'd and you're not commanding something insane for idle spark, the chances of that being legitimate knock are pretty slim.

Actually, I've never heard a car ping at idle. I dont' eve think it's possible. Rod knock, sure, but not detonation. I dunno

My car used to do this. I think this was my old stock engine. Which is now living it's life perfectly fine in another car.

Did you by chance happen to buy the car with my old engine and tune in it?

I would check timing sync first. Also, you can calibrate your TPS sensor in TS. Have you done that yet?

first thing I did was sync timing. and I didn't find where to calibrate the tps. ill figure that out tomorrow.

erat, that's exactly what it sounds like, but no, this was a cream puff bone stock garage kept car. doubt it has your old motor lol

got it. the iac valve duty cycle/coolant temp chart fell way off towards operating temp, so it would start fine when cold, but once it was warm it wouldn't stay running. I managed to get the accel enrichment a bit better too. I just tried a few other peoples settings til I found one that worked I cant really dial that in til I get a wideband I suppose. still not sure what that ping sound was all about. I plugged headphones into the port on the ecu and didn't hear anything when revving so I guess its not knock.

In TunerStudio

Go to Tools
And you'll see the Calibrate TPS function.

Wideband goes in BEFORE the MS. Order of assembly is as important as the right components.
