It seems to get a little better after 20-30 seconds. I think you probably have bad after start enrichment values. Once the after start kicks off and it smooths out a bit, the problem is likely warm up enrichment.

Other things to check:
1) Spark from both coils?
2) Bad gas?

You can also try adjusting the idle screw out a bit to raise the idle. I had to bump mine up slightly with the MS.

miataz 02-04-2008 07:09 PM

alrighty well my gas has been sitting in there since ummm, the last day i drove it which is when it started to snow, i believe the last day was in november think it has gone bad by then? And are you saying my coil pack is bad? And how would i check if im getting a spark, i really want to get my car running ahh its killing me.

Braineack 02-04-2008 07:27 PM

you're only firing one cylinder.

If performing a basic task such as 'check for spark' defeats you, perhaps installing your own standalone engine management system was a few steps over your head?:inout:

miataz 02-04-2008 07:36 PM

...

miataz 02-04-2008 07:48 PM

just pulled out the plugs from the front of engine back plug 1 is really black, plug 2 and 4 are not as bad, and plug 3 is black wet, smells like gas...il check for spark tm to late now and dark.

cjernigan 02-04-2008 08:31 PM

Install new plugs while you're at it.
Just stick the plug in the end of the plug wire and turn the car over with the plug near the metal engine hoist bracket. Get someone else to turn the key if you have to.

miataz 02-04-2008 08:53 PM

yea, i just replaced them not to long ago, but i will again, and i googled the other part says get friend to turn key as you said and hold new ground and look for spark or just hold it by the plug as you said. If i get no spark does that mean my coil pack went?

cjernigan 02-04-2008 08:58 PM

If you get no spark while using new plugs that means your coil or ignitor is dead or your wiring is bad or your MS isn't setup right. All kinds of options. Check if you have spark first then go from there.

miataz 02-04-2008 11:05 PM

i think its my ignitor because what does it say unplug it when you load firmware. Whats firmware when i plug in the ms to the harness? Because i never unplugged it and it said it could damage it but i never knew what firmware ment. So which part is the firmware so i dont do it again...but il double check tm if thats it or not but i think it is...ya when i loaded the map it was plugged in thats def my problem FUCK. And there fucking expensive to god dammit.

Ignitors can be found cheap used, search. You can also grab them from a 91-94 DSM (Talon, Laser, Eclipse) 2.0L turbo. Maybe the 2.0L N/T as well.

If the ignitor is all you blow during the course of your turbo miata build I will be amazed.

paul 02-04-2008 11:33 PM

wow

miataz 02-05-2008 02:59 PM

lmfao :D im going to check soon, i gotta pick up my package something else in the mail came in i shall be back soon!

olderguy 02-05-2008 03:50 PM

Check the vacuum line capped on the extreme rear of the intake to see if it has blown off if you find that your spark is OK.

miataz 02-05-2008 04:13 PM

intake mani right? got my package but photobucket is down...

miataz 02-05-2008 05:21 PM

miataz 02-05-2008 06:19 PM

just as i was gona say waste of postage ahah they always be sarcastic when they post but cant give the answer, but w.e google!!

Savington 02-05-2008 08:40 PM

If this were M.net, I would just tell you how, and a little part of me would die inside.

This is not M.net.

miataz 02-05-2008 10:53 PM

lmao, true. Found an igniter, brand spankin new 75 bucks and 25 shipping which is really dumb because its 25 to the States and Canada...but i dont feel like paying duties for shit anymore so its going to the states, and hopefully i dont fuck it up this time.

miataz 02-17-2008 03:09 PM

put my front springs and shocks on today, looks nice, tried to fire her up again, cleaned out the spark plugs for now...i turned the key it just wouldn't turn over, like when you try to start a car and it keeps going urrr urrr urrr, ect and wouldn't fire up. Is it because my starter is shot because i have been trying to start it to much or to i have to mess with my cranking PW's it was 5 deg outside today not that cold.

cjernigan 02-17-2008 03:27 PM

You cranking PWs are the amount of fuel being injected. Has nothing to do with the ability of your car being able to turn over when trying to start it. Sounds like you have a dead battery.

miataz 02-17-2008 03:45 PM

if it was the battery would it not just be a clicking noise? Not keep turning over and not starting?

miataz 02-18-2008 05:50 PM

Alright, i checked if i was getting spark (20 years later lol), and yes i am getting spark from all 4 wires, so my coil packs good. It still wouldn't fire up, battery's fine, getting spark, getting fuel because i can hear the pump when i put the key to on. I still dont know if its my igniter but would that be the reason why its not firing up?

miataz 02-19-2008 05:52 PM

heres a vid, turn speakers up, to hear cause cell phone is junk, i got spark, fuel, battery's perfect, the popping noise is when i press the gas, and the boost gauge goes over 0psi when i try to fire it up. Before it was at least running now it wont even turn on...

Savington 02-19-2008 07:09 PM

Just because you can hear the pump prime doesn't mean your injectors are firing. Take a screwdriver, place it on one of the injectors, put the other end to your ear, and have a friend crank the car. You should be able to hear the injector clicking as it fires.

Are the plugs soaking wet with fuel, or are they dry?

Marc D 02-19-2008 07:21 PM

sounded like my problem

are your injector plugs clipped in? (ask me how i know this one :greddy2: )

yes lol i believe so, and i even rewired them the other way again today to see if that was it but im 99.9% sure they are plugged in lol. Why did your car not start because they weren't clipped in all the way?

thesnowboarder 02-20-2008 05:10 PM

Miataz, dunno if you have seen this thread but this may help you out:

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/sho...&highlight=oil

I remember seeing a video where you though your car was running on 2 cylinders or something a few weeks back. Looks to be of the same issue. Just something to double check.

miataz 02-20-2008 06:15 PM

yea i will look into that, this Saturday im giving my last shot for everything, buddy's coming over and i mite get someone from the forum here ;) if i cant get it up and running this weekend im working at a garage co-op placement for school this semester gr.12 last year, and im just going to get it towed there and they can help me out with it...

miataz 02-23-2008 05:30 PM

Checked it out today after finishing installing the DDM gauge/radio panel(get pics after), timing belt is fine, i am getting fuel because i looked at the bottom of the plugs and they were wet, and i sprayed gas inside the throttle body just to make sure and it dint start. Im thinking its either that my timing is so off that it wont start or that im getting spark but not a strong enough spark. Would those be possibilities?
