Default Setting base timing on an NB2. Struggles.

<p>Trying to set timing over the phone on a buddies car. The timing mark is at like 12 o'clock. And turning up the trigger offset moves it just barely clockwise. We cranked it all the way to like 250 degrees and it barely moved. Going below zero offset moves it counter clockwise. There isn't a CAS on NB's. Am I missing a setting somewhere.</p>

Car wouldn't be running if the timing mark was at 12pm. Verify TDC on the balancer.

This is what came with my MS3-B. Are you doing ALL these things?

Setting the base timing:

1. Run TunerStudio and open your project

2. Make sure you are in Online mode

3. Go to Basic Setup -> More Ignition Settings

4. Set "Fixed Advance" to "Fixed Timing"

5. Set "Timing for Fixed Advanced" to "10".

6. Click Burn (if running, the engine may die at this point)

7. Switch the ignition off and on again.

8. Start the car

9. The crank pulley on the 99-05 has two marks on it. The left mark should align

with the "10" sign just behing the pulley, while the right mark should align with

the "T" mark behind the pulley. On the 90-97, there is only one mark, which

should align with the “10” mark.

10. Go to Tools -> Trigger Wizard

11. Press the "-" and "+" buttons until both marks on the pulley are properly aligned.

12. Press Burn when you are done. The engine may die.

13. Go to Basic Setup -> More Ignition Settings

14. Set "Fixed Advance" back to "Use Table" and click Burn

15. Switch the ignition off and on again - this is very important, if you don't do it, the

car will not start.

16. Start the car - the base timing is now set properly!
Edit - cut and paste got screwed up, I fixed it

Car ran fine on stock ecu so I'm guessing the timing marks aren't right anymore.
<br />Can I just find TDC and make a new mark?

I'm not sure you can get that much precision with a dipstick or a screwdriver. Sounds like its time to just replace the damper. Curly probably has like 6 used ones in his garage if you want to get a used one on the cheap, otherwise its like $150 PULLEY,CRANKSHAFT (BPD4-11-401) - $152.74 - BPD411401

Shitttt. This kid has to drive to Cali on wed lol. Maybe were going back to the stock ecu.
<br />Making my own marks would work for a bit though. Especially if we retard it a bit to keep it on the safe side.

Please try to set the trigger values by hand (because I had the problem once (long ago) where the trigger wizard didn't actually change the offset numbers...

Usually all the NB/NB2 (with stock sensors) see a trigger angle between 4.5 and 5.5° - they never vary a lot more.

OP you did fix the timing to 10 degrees when you checked right?
