I'm having the hardest time getting my MacBook to communicate with my msII. Im using the USB to serial adapter and I have tuner studios downloaded. Does anyone have some insight on this and maybe could help me out?

I set up my work MBP with tuner studio and from memory there was an issue with the supplied drivers for the usb/serial adapter that I used and I had to find some other drivers.

Does this mean I need to download that firmware? I cannot find this anywhere on my computer.

but basically, if you get the 3.0.3s firmware and there will be an ini file in there that you can load into TS.

current is 3.2.1 so it's probably best to get that instead though, there are links and instructions on that web page I linked.

 

Thanks for the help again. There file download in there is for Windows/Linux. I am currently trying to find a Mac download, or maybe I am just not understanding it correctly. I tried downloading the 3.2.1 and when I open it in terminal ( only thing that will open file ) it says command not found.

 

You could get VMware fusion and then get a free Linux os like Ubuntu and run it that way if the Mac os doesn't work.

 

ah sorry, I didn't think about that because I haven't upgraded firmware using the mac.

This thread suggests using a windows VM as mentioned above so that might be the only option other than borrowing another laptop.

You can do pretty much everything with the mac version of tuner studio and mega log viewer, with the exception of installing firmware. For that you will need windows.

That said, clicking the "firmware zipfile" link from this page on my mac gives me a plain zip file that i have no trouble with opening.

 

Ok so I am making slow progress. Next problem is I do not know what some of these settings need to be like can commands and egt full. I realize I have to put in my wideband sensor and keep afr and fahrenheit.

 

Nevermind, I have figured a lot out. Got megasquirt in tonight and pretty sure I got the idle pretty steady around 900 rpms.

Ok so I only have 1 wire coming into my db15 connector and thats for my mtx-l. Does this sound correct?

Which MS do you have? I have a DIYPNP and the DB15 is only used for extra inputs/outputs. I assume that you don't need anything other than the MTX-L on the DB15.

Re the AFR's, you need to check that you have the correct wire from the MTX-L hooked up to the MS on the correct pin. I think that by default, the MTX-L will have one of the analog outputs outputting a wideband signal and the other a simulated narrowband so make sure you have the right wire or change it with the software - something you might not be able to do with the mac actually?

I assume the MTX-L has calibrated the sensor and you are seeing the correct AFR on the gauge?

Have you selected Wideband in the tunerstudio project settings and configured your wideband in tunerstudio (Tools->Calibrate AFR-> Select 'Innovate LC1 Default' and then click 'Write to controller')

 

I have the 0-5 v wire in the pin 15 on the db15. I read something about manually putting in some numbers under where you told me to put the lc1 default. Both show that I have 7.4 afr. The o2 is calibrated and shows my afr on the actual gauge. I have a ms2 built by brain. I'm using the 3.0.3s.

 

I'm running out of ideas then, it could be that the gauge in TS isn't set up properly so you could try playing with that or take a short log and check that.

Did you hook up the brown or the yellow wire from the MTX-L to the MS?

 

Otherwise it sounds like the MTX-L isn't connected to the MS properly

 

I used the yellow wire and have 0-5 volts all the way up to the db15 connectors. Is there somewhere else I can splice the yellow wire to?
