Should I upgrade my original MSPNP?

I have the original MSPNP. What would be involved for me to upgrade it to a newer version? MS2? MS3? MS3X? Would it be worth the time or money? Since I'm scared (read: LAZY) to do any soldering I would probably pay someone else (Rev/Brain) to do it.

I'm currently running a 1.6 with basic greddy kit. In the very near future I am going to swap a built 1.8 in and a much nicer turbo kit. (EFR 6258 + ARTech Hot Side)

I'm making this thread for myself but also for other noobs that have the same question. :noob:

For your current setup: no.
For the greatness you have planned? yes.

ms2 is great and significantly superior to ms1 IMHO
ms3 is titties, and even more so.

More resolution, way more control, etc etc etc.
Going from tuning my diypnp with ms2extra to a few ms1's around here for my buddies, the ms1 was like a dinasour.

Thanks for the answer Vlad. I plan on swapping the 1.8 I'm getting from rharris in the next month I hope. Then save up more money for the turbo setup. I'd like to learn to tune the new to me 1.8 so I can tune the boosted setup once I get it.

So should I just get a MS3X since it's the best? Or is the X just an add-on card to the MS3?

I'm so confused. :noob:

So, maybe I'm an idiot, but from reading this post and the DIY page, isn't the 3.57 board in my MSPNP gen 1 the same main board described above? And, can't I simply pick up a daughtercard and use it to upgrade to MS3? Like I said, I might be missing something here. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

You might have to move some I/O around and maybe change the way it reads the triggers. Just compare the pinouts on both.

Essentially, yes. A few modifications, however these are mostly irrelevant as the MS3X board will replace nearly all of the functions traditionally carried out by the main board (injectors, ignition, idle, cam input, etc).

It's almost a joke that the main board continues to be required in the MS3 era. It's doing little more than physically holding the MS3 CPU in place and supplying it with power and a couple of analog inputs.

Yup. If you want, you can slap the 3.57 board into an MS3 case, and add an MS3 CPU and MS3X to it.

On the other hand, in doing so you are destroying a perfectly usable MSPnP which could otherwise be sold to someone else, presumably for much more than the trivial price difference between buying a complete MS3 kit and piecing one together with everything except for the main board.

No you're not making this thread for others, you're only making it for yourself you lazy git. Use the search function, it's been asked over and over.
Also don't even think about buying an ecu that cannot be upgraded like the custom firmware built devices and microsquirt based shit.
You will want to upgrade in the future, so get something that can be upgraded. IOW get a MS3X and don't be a ff-ing cheapskate or you'll find yourself in the same situation that you're in now.
If you cannot afford it than wait and save some money until Brain can build you one.
Yes, I'm having a bad hair day.
