Two timing marks 01+ engine
Maybe all of the 1.8s but I know my 04 engine has two marks on the pulley 10 degrees apart. Which one do I use to line up with to set my base timing?

When setting the fixed timing angle in MS (10* BTDC) this is what you should see.
On my car the two timing lines have two different paint marks, white and yellow. No idea why they decided to put two marks on the pulley. |
So when engine is off and you align the cams to TDC positions, is the pulley left mark aligned with the T and the right mark falls to the right below the T. The image 10 degrees clockwise?
Thanks |
You got it!
Engine crankshaft/pulley spins clockwise. When setting the fixed timing angle in MS to 10* BTDC (10* Below/Before Top Dead Centre):
I guess someone thought that using 2x pulley notches makes it easier to visually verify that pulley alignment is correct since you can see the alignment of 2x notches against 2x markers when doing the 10* BTDC test. |
Thank you Lokiel.
