Default Two timing marks 01+ engine

Maybe all of the 1.8s but I know my 04 engine has two marks on the pulley 10 degrees apart. Which one do I use to line up with to set my base timing?

So in Megasquirt when you set the fixed timing does this photo represent
-10 degrees or TDC?

(wondering why 2 lines are needed on the crank pulley when 1 line will do it?)

When setting the fixed timing angle in MS (10* BTDC) this is what you should see.

On my car the two timing lines have two different paint marks, white and yellow. No idea why they decided to put two marks on the pulley.

So when engine is off and you align the cams to TDC positions, is the pulley left mark aligned with the T and the right mark falls to the right below the T. The image 10 degrees clockwise?

Thanks

You got it!

Engine crankshaft/pulley spins clockwise.

When setting the fixed timing angle in MS to 10* BTDC (10* Below/Before Top Dead Centre):
  • the left-most notch aligns with the 10* marker
  • the right-most notch aligns with the TDC marker.
In MS, when setting 0* BTDC, you're checking for TDC (0* Below/Before Top Dead Centre):
  • the left-most notch aligns with the TDC marker
  • the right-most notch aligns clockwise 10* past the TDC marker
One notch MAY have made this easier to comprehend and explain and is sufficient.
I guess someone thought that using 2x pulley notches makes it easier to visually verify that pulley alignment is correct since you can see the alignment of 2x notches against 2x markers when doing the 10* BTDC test.
