Default Updating firmware

I have had my MS3Pro PNP for years now (since 2017) and I have never updated the firmware. I was curious as to what benefits I can get from updating the firmware and also had some questions regarding on how to do it. The car is a 90 with a BP swap running 1.6 harness and sensors.

Am I going to have to retune the whole thing or is there a way to just incorporate the old tune tables into the new firmware system?
What are some precautions I should take before upgrading the firmware? I have heard of the ECU getting bricked because of issues updating it
Are there any new features I would benefit from or help the car run any better?

There are new features and bug fixes (along with potential new bugs) in newer firmware versions. Whether those features updates matter depends on the person. I personally like some of the additional CAN bus functionality (like support for CAN widebands) in some of the newer releases.

The updating process is pretty easy. You basically download the update, plug in the ECU, and then run a console script provided in the update package while connected to the ECU. It will tell you to keep the car powered (to avoid bricking the ECU) and to remove some connectors since they will be in an undefined state (I think they were the coil packs). There are also some prompts to preserve the sensor calibrations. After a few minutes the ECU will be running the new firmware.

After the update you will need to load up Tuner Studio and it will give you a warning about the ECU firmware not matching the tune firmware. I remember being able to basically say "ok" and then push the old tune to the new firmware version and everything worked just like before. I didn't need to retune anything.

What version do you presently have? Benefits will depend upon what you are moving from and what you would be moving to.

If you download the "Megasquirt TunerStudio Lite Reference" documents from MSExtra.com, you can compare the two for features. (There may be special documents for the MSPro PNP, but I don't think so).

Also, if you post what you have, we can likely tell you what you would gain or lose by updating.

So, only one update available. @Ted75zcar had a lot of input into version 1.5.2 and would be the best guy to discuss what changes were made, and why.
