My MSPNP should be hitting my doorstep TODAY! YEEEEA! So yeah, anyways, allllll excited, but some guys have been saying they believe it is a necessity that I (1.6) convert to a vtps as described in the MS FAQ. I was under the impression that this was a solution for some people who have the problem, or am I mistaken and this issue concerns any and all 1.6 users of MS?
If I need it, I'll be calling my friend today to find out what his price is on a BMW VTPS.

A necessity? Not at all. It can be helpful if you wish to do TPS accel, TPS-referenced EBC, or something fancy like that, for for most folks, the regular switch-type 1.6 TPS will be fine. Your accel fuel will be MAP-based. If you wish, you can probably still use TPS as a variable for decel cutoff, IAC cutoff, and so forth.

I found it a necessity for my car, especially with A/C, likely due to an extremely lightweight flywheel.

I don't have A/C... I guess I'll hold off on it for now and only do it if I have the off-throttle idling problem...

Ryan, ive got a tps 201 that ben and many others use if you want to do that route, it would be a direct pnp with the stock pigtail. It just needs a bit of love for a perfect alignment on the shaft and all will be well. I didn't know that till i already picked up an automatic TB w/vtps sensor and took the well 201 off and looked at it.

It's mostly helpful on cars that are using both an A/C and a lightweight flywheel, like Atlanta93LE. This helps the MSPNP determine that you've suddenly lifted off the throttle and makes it easier to deal with stalling while idling with the A/C on. Many installations do not need this; our red test mule car is not using one.

The feature that Matt is referring to is the dashpot adder, at the bottom of the first Idle menu. When it detects that the throttle has closed suddenly, it adds a little bump to the IAC duty cycle to help it recover. Even with a stock flywheel and no A/C, for me implementing it meant the difference between the idle dipping to 500 or 600 before recovery (when lifting off and shifting into neutral) vs. pausing for a moment at about 1,500 and then settling down.
