VVT Controller

Awesome. :bigtu:

Reverant 11-03-2010 06:38 PM

Yeah, will they release the schematics though? :bowrofl:

$199 got to pay if you want to play.

FatKao 11-03-2010 08:23 PM

So it looks like this is expecting the signal from a bone stock NB. I don't see anything in the UI that would let you tweak it for other crank wheels.

Anyone on the inside who can comment?

twpipe 11-03-2010 08:45 PM

Ordered one today, I will let you know how it all works.

FatKao 11-03-2010 10:34 PM

When you get it hooked up can you let me know if pin 15 is constantly +12v in relation to ground? I'm figuring out how I'm going to wire the VVT solenoid into an ODB-II NA harness. Being able to use the IAC wires for it would be convenient.

Correct, it's expecting a bone stock NB setup. Other trigger wheels are likely to be added in the future.

It'll be Kevin's call if he wants to release schematics. While the VVTuner has an output to make it easier to use with MS1, it is not a Bowling & Grippo product.

Reverant 11-04-2010 09:36 AM

I was just kidding on the schematics. This is a proprietary product, not a B&G offering.

y8s 11-04-2010 10:11 AM

this is an awesome alternative to MS3X.

Are we talking weeks, months, years?

What specific pattern did you have in mind?

richyvrlimited 11-04-2010 11:55 AM

Trackspeeds 12 OEM fit 12 tooth trigger (or 12-1) and OEM cam trigger (is it 2 & 1?).

Bingo.

FatKao 11-04-2010 11:59 AM

Same for me as well.

shuiend 11-04-2010 12:22 PM

Mine shipped out today. Hopefully the planets will align and I have it installed on Saturday.

Ah, now it will be pretty simple to plop my recently purchased VVT-engine into my 99 and swap back to the 99 engine at any time (e.g. for inspection). :)
I only need it to work in April so there is a lot of time for you all to figure out everything until then :D (maybe even a version 1.5 til then as usual).

Having the 12x12 table inside TunerStudio would be nice, but I feel that VVT optimization would be done on a Dyno anyway (as a separate parameter), and then a separate application for a separate purpose can actually be better (separate updates when things change).

Hmm, why not also offer a VVT-solenoid pigtail for those that didn't also get the engine harness (or don't want to hack it up)?

That depends on how many people need them and how easy they turn out to be to source.

Not needed. This is a simple, self-contained product that does only one specific job.

I'd think that you might get some interest out of the Subaru crowd if 36-2-2-2 (crank) plus twin 4-1 (cam) was supported, with dual outputs. (Subarus, being flat fours, have two intake cams, two cam sensors, and two VVT actuators. The mechanism is similar to the Mazda BP-Z3.)

I've got timing diagrams both from the factory manual and from on-car observation available if there's interest in this from the development side.

When I went through this a few weeks ago I had good luck with getting connectors from Flyin' Miata.

It is hit or miss if you find a salvager with the connector. I looked for a while and could not find one and then all of a sudden I found a whole harness.

I have a random question about the VVT controller. How is the delay of timing signals from the VVT controller to MS. From what I understand the NB signals go into the VVT controller, get read and then converted to the NA CAS signals and then get fed to the MS. I am assuming that the delay of doing all that does not actually add to up and your reading the info slightly delayed?
