WB advice for MS

ok, i heard that i can use several kinds (off different make/model cars) to run on MS, but can't find which ones.
any advice would be great. i'm planning on hitting several junkyards tomorrow and would like to know which cars to look for. i'm not trying to be cheap, but i'm low on money and can't quite afford an lc1 right now. specially when i pay like $5 for O2s at the junks.
thanks for the advice.

Julio, I would save your pennies and get a new one. A used WB from a junk yard isn't exactly a safe thing to do. Plus, I am pretty sure you need a controller for it.

MapaX5 03-20-2009 08:35 PM

oh i thought they'd just plug in and i'd have to set up MS to just read it or whatever. and i'm just doing it because i don't know how good my stocker is.

96rdstr 03-20-2009 08:42 PM

Your stocker is a narrowband. Not a good idea to tune with that at all. As mentioned in your other post that was double posted :loser:, heh, you need a controller for the wideband O2. You will then run the signal line from the controller to the MS.

AEM UEGOS are a little less expensive than LC1's.

but they're still like $200!!! i ain't got that much. i'm still trying to finish the turbo. but before i get it in, don't i need a WB? or can i just run it for the mean time and copy someone's sheet? (i wonder how smart that'd be)

ogwazza 03-21-2009 04:07 AM

You sound like a cheap-ass like myself!
Good to hear

Check this link for the vehicles that you will find good 4wire widebands in, here
but you will still need a controller, this one is cheap and good

This is the cheapest that you will find

No way. You no need it. You can spend 200 now, or take the chance of rebuilding your motor for 5x that amount.

Isn't someone here running a JAW with the bosch sensor? That's a pretty big possibility on my to buy list but I think I read somewhere that the LC-1 has a much higher sampling rate.

There are a few people running the JAW. If anyone wants they can buy my burnt out unit if they want to try to fix it.

MapaX5 03-21-2009 12:00 PM

that is very good info!!! i'll contact JAW dude and see what he says about JAW and MS. thanks.
hey 94mx5red, where are you located? and what is wrong with the unit? does it come with the sensor?
PM with info please.

Check Amazon, they might have those sensors at a better price.

I'm running the JAW 1.03 with the Bosch sensor and VW connector. Works like a champ. I can't comment on the sampling rate.

I recently bought a JAW 1.041 and I'm currently installing it.
I'll make a write up on it here within the week.

1.014 PCB + random parts 42.50
Components ~$17
Bosch Sensor 17014 $53.98(Autozone)

Total for all was about $115.
This doesn't include wire used.

Amazons price is about $51 shipped. I opted for Autozones which was only $54. If you are a SCCA member they will give you a %10 discount if the person is nice or even know what SCCA is. :hustler:

Whats wrong with your LC1 thats stated in your signature?

DXO 03-22-2009 03:50 AM

Nothing. It is just getting moved over to my friends 240sx and thought I would try out the JAW.

I have it completed. Just have to drop it in and connect it to MS.

ok, please let me know how it goes, i really need to get this O2 situation fixed. my turbo's getting antsy.

Honestly, if you've spent enough money to buy a nice car and then to mod it with what seem to be some tastys mods in your signature... why don't you just pony up and buy the right thing?

Is the $100 price difference worth the risk of running the oddball configuration? You've spent this much so far, so just bend over and take it. A good wideband is pretty vital.

I will if needed. Just thought I would try it out for the good of the community.

If it doesn't work out I'll just grab another LC1. I know I lot of the DSM crowd live by the JAW so I don't see how there should be a problem. If it does work out it will provide a cheaper route for others who don't have the extra money to spend on a LC1 or AEM.

If it does fail so badly you get great pics of the carnage and I get a new built motor. Doesn't matter to me which way it goes.

Whoa
Are you dissing DXO for buying a JAW??

Or are you dissing MapaX5 for not having a wideband??
