As promised, here is a quick write-up on my WI installation. I will do further work on the website soon but I threw some stuff together in the hopes that it would help someone who is in the middle of, or just starting, their installation.

Highlights are an LED for the system, a cheap water tank, and the ability to fill the tank from outside the car. Enjoy...

not to shabby there Ron, i dont like that pressure switch i got a few off ebay that are alot better to mount and my Snow kit also came with a nicer switch but the trade off is no measured PSI indicator on mine. Still the filler deal is frigin awsome Gw man.
If i ever give up my Antena I will most likely Copy you on that.

 

How bright are those LEDs? I still want to duplicate something like that for the pump turning on and the water level running low but I didn't want the LEDs to be too bright.

Do you have a part # from Radio Shack?

I haven't messed much with the PSI switch. I have it turned around so you cannot see the scale BUT I took some white fingernail polish and painted one of the "fingers" on the adjustment. Right now I have it backed all the way down (as low as the pressure will go) and then turned 1 full turn up. That is making it activate somewhere around 6-7 PSI. I only have it like that so I can see the light turn on and off a lot. Not sure where I will end up running it.

Yeah, I was struggling for what to do for a fill cap. I was standing in the hardware store looking at all the possibilities and then it hit me on how to do it. I was close to running out of threads on the male but there is an o-ring under the cap (around the male threads) that kind of holds it on there tight after the 1.5 turns that I can put on it. I figure I will probably lose the cap sometime but they can be had for $1 at any hardware store.

I'm having a hard time seeing how much water is in my tank so I just fill it until it comes out the top. The top of the gas can doesn't seal well so it makes a little mess whenever I do this. Something I need to work on.

Yesterday was trash day but luckily I still had one of the empty packages in the can (stuck to the bottom on a peice of duct tape). The number for the green one is 276-271. I have only see it light up in the garage during the day and in the car during a drive but as far as I can tell, it will not blind you. The car RARELY goes out at night (I can count on one hand the number of times I've had the headlights on in the past 3 years - really!) but I have a drag race tomorrow and I will let you know how rediculous it is.

Must be some short circiut in my brain, plenty others to keep it company so dont worry You might modify a fuel cell float level to show how much water you have left in real time as well. Just a though dunno if that would be practical though GL man

 

Since it really isn't a daily driver, more than likely I'll never have to worry about the water level. I'd still like to figure out how much I use just screwing around.

 

you've measured the pump output so just keep track of the time. with a timer or mentally etc.

 

Yes, I'm up to 21.87 seconds so far. So, 4.65L/Hr x 1/164Hr = ... No, wait, that was at atmosphere so multiply that by 850mbar (gauge) boost pressure and it gives me... No wait, that wasn't a constant boost pressure, so...


Nah, maybe I'll just fill it up each time <G>. I've been using tap water for the initial testing but I probably should put some dist water in there. I should probably drain the system, flush it, and refill.

 

stick with the atmospheric numbers and you will be pessimistic on your results and never run out. FWIW for my pressure setting etc i use about the amount of water i should for 15 minutes in boost continuos.

Now how bright were the LEDs at night?

 

Good question. Since I blew out my transmission on the first race I never got to see them at night <G>. Dig the $2 for the LED from under the couch cusions and test it for yourself - heheh. If I remember, I'll look at it in the morning in the dark garage.

I'll make a post on my tranny problem tonight and give the details.

 

I finally had a chance to go to RS and pick up a couple of LEDs as well as resistors, and a micro switch.

I plan on wiring up the green LED for when the WI pump is activated and a red LED for when my water level gets low.

Anyone know how I can make the LED blink?

 

555 timer circuit would do it. But IMO it's not worth the trouble. You'll get used to glancing at it and refilling anyway.

 

Actually the best way is to buy a flashing LED.

Otherwise, you'd need a 555 timer IC, a couple resistors, and a capacitor. This would allow you not only to flash, but to adjust the flashing rate, but not worth the cost and effort considering you can get a flashing LED for $1.

I didn't even think about LEDs designed to flash. We've used 555 timers in our labs the past few weeks with oscopes so i was running on that track of mind.
