'01 6 speed trans, 30k miles
I'd like to sell this locally in the Balt-DC-VA area unless you're willing to make a road trip. I don't have the shifter unfortunately, just the bare trans.
$500. Frank |
Exactly what I'm looking for. I'd take it for sure, but that's an 11-hour trip one way...
wow that's a great price
HOLY CRAP!!! why cant you live closer to me????
oh... come the fuck on! i just paid fucking $400 for 30k mile 5 speed!!!!! this is so fucking unfair!
Well, unless someone is coming down to Atlanta from that region and can pick it up for me and bring it closer, I'm making the trip.
Are you picking this up for sure? If not i'm gonna grab it this weekend.
It's for sure.
In that case.. I guess I'll get seconds should you change your mind.
Sell it to you for $700. lol
j/k |
Why not just ship it??
Figured it would be more convenient for myself and the seller if I just went and picked it up since we both have no experience with shipping larger items. I was going to VA this weekend anyway to see my brother who is home for a little while from Iraq, but the Army just decided they wanted to see him too. :(
On the other hand, it gives me and the g/f a reason to get out of town for the weekend and maybe even look around D.C. a little. She's always wanted to just go there. |
Well if you're not going up to see family anymore, do consider shipping it. It will fit in a 48x15x15 box w/o the shifter installed. You want to be sure to pack it up tightly so that it does not move. Small cardboard boxes around the turret works well. I ship miata manual transmissions all the time. A 6 speed to DC area would cost me on the order of 35 minutes + $60 for freight + $5 or so in supplies.
I have shipped a few as well. I recently shipped a 1.6 rear diff for a whopping $26 with fedex ground. I'm sure the tranny wouldn't be much more than $50.
Hmmm... I think that the seller and I may have to discuss this at greater length then...
It's just a matter if he wants to muscle it around to pack it up, but it's not that hard.
I shipped a tranny for a 1g eclipse from RI to FL, cost me 150 via ups last year. Pain in the ass to box it all up.
[offtopic] dude what the hell i was getting quoted up the ass for a fender from those venders, i'm talking $100+ from FL to VA. [/offtopic]
This is a good deal, I paid more for that for my 99 AE tranny.....
Maybe I should pick this up and have a second 6-speed just in case...

UPS, DHL, Fedex, other? Thanks, Frank |
I think we get those boxes from U-Line, but there's plenty of places that sell cardboard boxes. We have a UPS account so we go that way, but I'd imagine that DHL would be the least costly if one had no account.
It's really not that bad to ship. Just use plenty of cardboard to keep the trans from being able to shift around. The other option is to stretch wrap the trans and use the spray foam stuff to form around it, but I'd imagine that's an expensive rig for a single shot use. Don't use bubble wrap or peanuts. |

Frank, I know what you said in the PM for materials cost, but if it takes more to package it so that it's safe, I'll definitely reimburse you for it. |
I've got a bunch of boxes and crap from hoarding parts for my swap. Plus the post office has free priority mail boxes which make good fillers. ;)

A bunch of dsm guys used to ship trannies in plastic utote containers with a bunch of packaging.
Cheap and nobody complained. |
I once shipped a tranny basically rolled in cardboard and taped well, they really don't care as long as it doesn't get dirt or grease on them. And fedex is likely your best bet.
