1.6 Toyota COPs with bracket
15 Attachment(s)
I'm switching over to GM coils, so I'll no longer need this setup.
I made the bracket myself out of 1/8" aluminum bar. Tappered allen screws were counter sunk into the bracket for a completely flush mounting on the bottom. The #1 stud is a little close to the valve cover bolt, and the standard 10mm chrome bolt will not fit. I replaced it with a 8mm bolt, which will be included. Beer not included. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422116761 Studs were locked into the top with nuts, and a 2nd nut added as a stop for the coils themselves. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422116761 All four coils were marked by myself as 1, 2, 3, and 4, just to keep them straight. They were also marked by the original seller (off ebay) as being off an '01 Corolla. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422116761 OEM pigtails were purchased off ebay and soldered into the harness. 3/4 are perfect, the #2 coil has the clip snapped off. I've driven and tuned like this in numerous track days and dyno sessions, I don't doubt it's integrity at all. However, I bought 4 replacement clips, lost one, and will include the remaining 3 if you'd like to unpin the #2 clip and clip in the new one. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422116761 The harness is wrapped from the pigtails to ~8" past the back of the valve cover with self-adhesive silicone wrap, the impressive specs of which can be read here: Highlights include a 500F melting point, tensile strength of 700psi, and a resistance of 400v/mm. The rest of the harness was wrapped in standard electrical tape. The coils themselves will bolt directly on to a 1.6 valve cover, however you'll have to wire them in. I included ~1/4" of my car's wiring harness so you don't have to search around for the proper wiring. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...pszxkmfmds.jpg Here's everything that will be included, again minus the beer. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422116761 Price is $175 shipped. |

Hey just curious, what's the advantage to the current cop setup vs the gm method?
I'm running a stock 1.6 (91) on a pretty good HP turbo set up and have been considering upgrading my ignition option. I have mspnp v1 (fully upgraded firmware with the better board to swap in a ms2/3 daughter board when I find one). This just spliced into the 4 main coil wires? I haven't torn it down yet to inspect |
Bump. Picked up a spare ignitor, so these will soon be PNP.
