1996-97 FM II Hydra turbo system

12 Attachment(s)
Selling an FM II turbo system for 1.8 NA Miatas. This particular kit has a plug and play harness for 96-97 cars, can be installed on 94-95 cars with a different harness. This is a current spec kit in excellent condition, ~15k miles use. About the only wear item on these kits is the Hydra WB02 sensor, I am including a brand new sensor purchased from Flyin Miata.

Features Hydra 2.7 ECU, GT2560R turbo, Inconel studs with Stage 8 locking hardware, serial to USB convertor. Includes all hardware, hoses, valves, clamps, injectors, sensors and instructions. PM with questions or if you want pictures of specific parts. Sorry, not interested in selling parts separately.

$3,500 in central Ohio; I have a FedEx account and can likely ship ground anywhere in the lower 48 for around $60.

Ammmm, is this kit`s hardware compatible with 2004 Miata?

fooger03 10-10-2014 07:54 AM

Crap - it almost makes me wish I had another Miata to build. GLWS.

Having moved stuff between NA/NB's in the past...

The majority of the kit can be made to work but I wouldn't say it's compatible. The manifold, turbo, downpipe physically fit. The downpipe won't mate to your exhaust. You might be able to make the intercooler piping and intercooler work, but it won't be a direct fit. The injectors work. The heatshield around the turbo can be made to work and possibly the airbox but it'll look stupid won't be as effective. The electronics won't work.

I doubt this will last long, but if for whatever reason this is still lying around in a few months when I have the cash I'd happily pick it up. I'm from cleveland.

Hi,

I am interested and have cash in hand. Is there any endplay in the turbo shaft?

Thanks,
Dave

I should say, no more than is intended:

Q. How much shaft play should my dual ball bearing turbo have?

A. The Garrett full ball-bearing turbo is designed to have clearance between the bearing cartridge and center housing for hydrodynamic damping in addition to the internal clearances of the bearing cartridge itself. Hydrodynamic damping uses the incompressible properties of a liquid (oil in this case) and the space around the bearing cartridge to dampen the shaft motion of the rotating assembly. When the turbo is new, or has not operated for a long period of time allowing most of the oil to drain out, the rotating assembly will move more in the radial direction than a typical journal-bearing turbo because there is no oil in the center housing. This condition is normal. As long as the shaft wheel spins freely and the wheels don't contact their respective housings, the assembly will function properly.

Sale pending to cardriverx

cardriverx 10-11-2014 05:48 PM

I need to bow out for family reasons. Apologies to all.

Ah man, I was getting excited for you.

GLWS OP, seems like a great buy.

JTod 10-11-2014 06:37 PM

Yup, back on the market.

Greasemonkey2000 10-11-2014 07:45 PM

I would have bought this but the buyer of my sc kit had buyers remorse, so no more funds. For future reference would you be willing to sell the kit and hydra separate? If so, how much just for the turbo kit?

Yeah funds are less than I thought I was going to have to spend. At this point I think I will refresh the questionable engine I have and work my way up to turbocharging it, hopefully within 6-9 months.

JTod was great to deal with. Whoever is thinking of buying just do it lol.

My preference is not to separate any parts so I haven't given any thought to pricing that way.

djcarr was the second person in line and it looks like he may buy the kit. I will update the thread with status.
