How did this happen?

I used a wrench to hold the cam in order to tight up the cam pulley.
It broke when i was tightening it up.

Doh!!

GLWS!!

olderguy 06-25-2012 07:33 PM

A good welder can fix that nicely

Hot_Wheels 06-25-2012 10:50 PM

welder? you mean JB weld!

bogaut 06-25-2012 11:26 PM

Dont scrap it, JB IT !

elesjuan 06-25-2012 11:32 PM

I'll give you $50 shipped.

Frank_and_Beans 06-26-2012 01:04 PM

i dont think $50 can cover my shipping cost. sorry

elesjuan 06-26-2012 07:42 PM

Nonsense poopypants!

I just shipped a set of wheels/tires for $129 with a total weight of 156 pounds.. ;)

MX5RACER 06-28-2012 12:44 PM

Try this:

Aluminum Welding Rods - Pack of 8 Alumiweld Rods

Silentoreo34 06-29-2012 01:13 AM

50 bucks shipped...the head will become even more cracked while that cheap shipping. Good deal still if someone wants to spend the time/$ getting it rewelded.

thomas18a 06-29-2012 02:10 AM

Well, I ended up buying this cylinder head last week. I have a professional fabricator from work that was going to weld the crack back up.

I just received it in the mail yesterday, and decided to tear it down to clean it. I removed the cam caps and noticed disaster:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1341658652

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1341658652

Holy crap - this head really is junk. The exhaust cam bearing on cylinder 2 is completely smoked. The other cam bearings definitely show some stress from embedded particles as well, but the exhaust #2 is completely destroyed.

This was certainly a surprise for me. Hopefully thomas18a will make it right.

thomas18a 07-07-2012 12:15 PM

refund will be issued if u ship it back to me

Hot_Wheels 07-07-2012 01:04 PM

ill pay 25 for the lifters if there still good.

Frank_and_Beans 07-07-2012 03:22 PM

Well, I'm going to ship it back. Getting boned for $50 shipping is better than getting boned for $155.

Sometimes these deals just aren't good deals.

bogaut 07-07-2012 11:21 PM

:/ bummer

silvermazda 07-08-2012 02:34 AM

WOW. I was about to buy it. Thanks for beating me to it.

Frank_and_Beans 07-08-2012 08:50 AM

Looks like Thomas18 is now refusing to refund.

From a PM:

"I jsut talked with my mechanic. He said the head should still run fine after the cracked is fixed. In fact, the head had been running in my car for a year. I had no problem with it. at this point, since the head could still run fine after cracked is fixed, i would not accept return."

Sorry bud. This head is not still usable. You need a better mechanic, and I need my money back.

rleete 07-08-2012 11:52 AM

OP should refund and be glad that he's not banned. This is CR style crap.

bmxfuel007 07-08-2012 12:12 PM

Did you pay with paypal? File a claim asap. Hopefully you didn't send money as a gift. This is ridiculous and is totally unacceptable. He probably didn't know about it considering the way he puts stuff together on his own car, but that is total crap. I hope you get it sorted out

chpmnsws6 07-08-2012 12:28 PM

Buyer needs to eat all. I've been on both sides of the fence. I've had to eat a few NIB items. It hurts, but its better then being seen as a dead beat seller.

Stein 07-08-2012 11:58 PM

Damn, that sucks. One of the reasons that I only deal with people that have been around for a bit and have positive feedback.

There's no way that any mechanic could say that head was good.

bogaut 07-09-2012 12:28 AM

lol at refusing a refund. file claim with paypal ASAP.

Frank_and_Beans 07-09-2012 06:09 AM

The Paypal dispute has been filed. The seller originally wanted me to setup as a gift, but I didn't feel comfortable without any protection. Luckily, I paid the extra 3% Paypal fees and hopefully have some recourse available.

I do think it is strange that if I ship this back to the seller and get a refund provided that:
1) The seller has his useless part back and is out no money (Net zero for transaction)
2) The buyer has no part, and is out $50 for shipping it back to the seller (net -$50)

How is that fair?

phillyb 07-09-2012 09:27 AM

i've also gladly paid the additional 3% to have some recourse JUST IN CASE.
good luck

TurboTim 07-09-2012 10:48 AM

Good luck and let us know how it works out with Paypal. Thomas18 = scumbag

Batou 07-09-2012 06:30 PM

Thanks for the info guys.

He's just being an asshat. If he's going to be out something, he wants you to also. The flaw in that is he's the one who goofed, not you.

TNTUBA 07-09-2012 08:18 PM

Why is this guy not banned yet?

chpmnsws6 07-09-2012 08:33 PM

If he makes it right, he shouldn't be banned. If he doesn't, he should be.

Wow, how do you sleep at night? There is no way that engine was running for a year with bearing caps in that shape.

thomas18a 07-12-2012 12:22 PM

i hv video to prove. The head was in running condition before it was removed.

Oh well, never mind then, lol. All is well, carry on.

You are a total cockfag. Just go ahead and return the money with a little dignity.

Thomas.. Yes it may have been running, I will concede that, But it would not have run much longer.

Looking at the pics you posted, you can see the darker colors (circled in red) of heat build up on both the cam and the cam cap.

I didnt notice that when I first looked, and thought about buying this head.

:2cents: once again

phillyb 07-12-2012 03:09 PM

fear the bogus!

kenzo42 07-13-2012 02:04 AM

I thought about buying it too since I was in the area.

Laziness pays off again.

I hope you get your money back.

TheDriver 07-13-2012 11:12 AM

you're a pretty sick guy Thomas

Braineack 07-13-2012 11:35 AM

I will confer with the FBI guys later on fraud and this guy knowingly witholding information for an inter-state sale.

If Thomas doesn't refund, you should discuss this with Paypal. I suspect they don't appreciate people working-around their system and he'll most likely lose his account.

Frank_and_Beans 07-13-2012 01:23 PM

One more disturbing item is the fact that when the head arrived here, several cam cap bolts were missing. I wasn't too worried about the missing bolts themselves - more worried about the fact that missing bolts indicate that the cam caps had been removed and the seller would DEFINATELY have seen the damage. So, he saw the damage, and chose not to mention it.

Now he claims that the damage should have no effect on the cylinder head at all.

There are two possible scenarios:
1) Seller isn't smart enough to realize that a destroyed bearing makes a cylinder head unusable and sent it out without bad intent. However, he should make it right by refunding the money, now that he is informed of the fact that the cylinder head is junk, and it's condition was not properly represented.
2) Seller is purposely fraudulent, and won't refund because that would eat into his profit from selling defective equipment.

phillyb 07-13-2012 01:28 PM

that reminds me, i need cam cap bolts. lol

Fireindc 07-13-2012 02:17 PM

Wow that head is trash. Sorry man.. Maybe we can get someone to go by his house, oldskool mt.net style.

hustler 07-13-2012 02:18 PM

Return the head through his front window.

Braineack 07-13-2012 02:25 PM

this assumes thomas doesnt live in parents basement, as college students don't typically have their own house to reside in.

Seller refuses to return money. Waiting for a Paypal decision. I'm not sure why Paypal is taking so long.

Frank_and_Beans 08-01-2012 07:17 AM

Case Update:

PayPal boned me.

Quote from Paypal:
"After careful consideration, we're unable to decide this claim in your favor at this time.

The item is not in the same condition as when you received it."

Arghhhh! Seems like they are claiming that I did this damage somehow? What a bunch of morons!
