cast manifold

Hello,

I have made a cast iron manifold which can be tapped for either T2 or a T3 turbo, I am currently discounting them in return for some feedback

I am not very good with ads so I guess i'll take questions, price shipped is 290 USD, this doesnt include paypal fees

Manifold in the photos is tapped for T2 and has had relief cuts, not in photo

Any downpipes available?

What material?

sonofthehill 06-13-2017 12:34 PM

This.
Looks nice.

Kraken 06-13-2017 12:35 PM

Downpipes are available if I you want it for t25 t28 or volvo td04hl, will be buying more turbos as I start getting some feedback

Material is ductile iron Ni-Resist Type D5S, it has 35% nickel and its used commonly on manifolds by most car makers, believe its the same material as used on turbo exhaust housing, however the ones I tested werent made with the same alloy

Currently only 1.6s are in stock, the 1.8s had some weak points which are being addressed by changing the mold, no eta at the moment but hope to be done asap

sonofthehill 06-13-2017 12:39 PM

Very nice.

Will you be offering studs and fasteners?

concealer404 06-13-2017 12:47 PM

Pics/details/price on downpipe for TD04HL?

Kraken 06-13-2017 12:50 PM

I have spent 4000 usd on studs before and I am not planing on doing it again anytime soon. The studs, are made from inco a286 and manufactured by the same company that makes hardware for Mclaren, however they dont fit this manifold as they are too short. Believe they are used extensively in F3

Next week i'll have photos for the td04hl with downipe, if you are seriously thinking about it drop me a message

stefanst 06-13-2017 04:22 PM

Sweet. Did you try fitment with EFR? Pictures of manifold mounted?

konmo 06-13-2017 06:25 PM

very nice to see more options available. Curious on EFR fitment as well.

pdexta 06-13-2017 07:28 PM

Looks like a really nice piece! I feel like the turbo is going to sit pretty high with this manifold right? I'm interested in seeing some pictures of it mounted.

patsmx5 06-13-2017 08:52 PM

That looks really nice. If you keep it at 290 shipped, and offer a downpipe for a fair price, this would be a great option for a lot of folks. The design looks solid, construction to match. From the pictures the gasses combine, and turn, and are pointing right at the turbo before the wall that seperates them. That way the gasses aren't fighting each other, they just hit the turbo. There are 400+ dollar cast manifolds that let the cylinders blow gasses into one another. I bet it works well, for sure better than the typical cheap cast manifolds you see that are basically a log manifold.

.one lane 06-13-2017 08:58 PM

I would be interested in the 1.8 manifold/dp whenever you get the manifold sorted out.

Ted75zcar 06-13-2017 10:47 PM

Looks pretty good!

No relief cuts?

Edit: If you make any mold changes, some flats for EGT would be great too.

Goingnowherefast 06-13-2017 10:59 PM

Interested. How much could you make a T25 downpipe for? I can send you my SR20 T25 for sizing and fabrication if you want.

does it preserve ac on a 1.6l

Turbo flange center sits around 50mm higher from the middle of the exhaust ports and 40mm offset over cyl2, I am ashamed to put up photos of my crap engine bay, will try give it a clean and take some photos

I do agree with what you say and cant really expand on that until some of you guys buy one and let us know what you think, I believe I can do close to somewhere in the 360-420 bracket in the future, if they are not self sustainable I will not make them, the alloy is very expensive and shipping is around 70 usd

I suppose around 7 days until they are cast again and then another 5 days to go through heat treatment, cleaning, machining, quality control, cleaning again, 1 day to check everything 1 day to get them ready for shipping, so lets say 3 weeks more or less

Yes it does, plenty of clearance and everything is really easy to get to

sonofthehill 06-14-2017 12:04 PM

Have you seen my engine bay?

What about a less expensive alloy, perhaps ductile iron, or at least something with less nickel?

concealer404 06-14-2017 12:05 PM

sonofthehill 06-14-2017 12:21 PM

Definitely true about my engine bay.

But I thought those ductile mani's lasted? :dunno:

concealer404 06-14-2017 12:28 PM

Who cares? This is a thing that's presumably not shitty, at shitty thing price. Why mess with it?

Do you want Racelands? Because this is how you get Racelands.

sonofthehill 06-14-2017 12:32 PM

Well, because he suggested that he might not keep making them because the alloy was so expensive. That would suck.

The other good option would be to get minimums and do group buys.

Kraken 06-14-2017 04:57 PM

patsmx5 06-14-2017 05:34 PM

Build them well, don't compromise the quality to hit a price is my opinion. I only mentioned price in my previous comments as a lot of folks aren't looking for high end, race car, 10/10ths parts. Some are, but not everyone.

The last 2 pictures look really nice, really well designed. I would have bought this over an ebay manifold had I known it was available at the time. Looks lighter, stronger, and would certainly flow better. Casting quality looks better as well, and you mentioned the material benefit already as well.

Monk 06-14-2017 05:34 PM

Ignore the last few comments and charge a reasonable price that still makes you a profit.
There are a lot of people on this forum that want things to be priced unreasonably low.
Just make it not suck.
Are you saying the downpipe you are using with the second manifold also works with the first?

Kraken 06-14-2017 06:34 PM

Thanks for the kind words. In no way did I take the comments as negative, i wrote a few replies but realized none actually answered the question about price.
I rather not make any manifolds then have to replace them, I made these manifolds because of the love for the mx5, cant explain it I just thought it deserved better than what was available. In now way I could afford to drop 7k on FM kit or similar, so decided to make my own, this was over 3 years ago and this where I am now

The downpipe for the TD04L is actually a cast elbow with vband, it will not fit any other turbo

sonofthehill 06-15-2017 12:31 AM

I would rather see you charge more for this than stop making them. Obviously we are all thrilled to see your manifold, and the cast elbow is sweet too.

Kraken 06-15-2017 04:54 AM

Dont want to charge maximum amount, there is no point in making something for people that can afford to buy FM or trackspeed stuff, its not the point. I want to compete in the lower end stuff, hopefully no one will need to buy a welded log ever again

Think the trackspeed manifold is similar, however its not a clone. The only way to have clearances and easy access is to have the turbo sitting slightly higher and to the left, thats what I done

It looks similar because no one else has cast sexy runners before

adryargument 06-15-2017 05:18 AM

EFRs are longer than GTNNNNs so the flange would need to be moved further forward to allow room for the downpipe (even a 2.5" downpipe would be hard to fit)..

x_25 06-15-2017 11:20 AM

These look excelent. If I wasn't currently playing with some stupidchargers I would be doing the TD04hl. I will be keeping an eye on this.

mmmjesse 06-15-2017 01:30 PM

i was about to start mocking up a manifold just like this with weld-els. I would love to see it on an engine with a 2560 or bigger. see how it fits up.

.one lane 06-15-2017 02:18 PM

I know you mentioned the manifold can be tap'd for either a T2 or T3, but are you planning on making that sweet cast downpipe elbow in a traditional 5 bolt pattern? (2554/2560/etc)

Kraken 06-15-2017 02:51 PM

CAT comes free with every manifold :D

Goingnowherefast 06-15-2017 09:59 PM

So I've been talking to Kraken and I think I'm going to be the first (or one of) to pull the trigger. I'll be getting a T2 tapped manifold and 3 Inch DP to mate to my SR20 T25 w/ Billet wheel. I'll keep you guys updated on my thoughts throughout the whole process.

For those interested, I'm trying to make a FM "like" kit. Which includes this Manifold + DP, Water and Oil Lines, Inconel Studs +Stage 8 Hardware, FM's silicone intercooler piping and either an ebay intercooler or Fab9 tuning IC.

.one lane 06-15-2017 10:15 PM

Are you getting it for the 1.8 or 1.6? I would be interested in a 1.8 kit (manifold, dp elbow, downpipe) for a T2. I currently have the FM diy kit for the 1.6 but I'm swapping my motor so I need 1.8 parts.

I will definitely be interested in a 1.8l manifold. Will you have a full piping kit available for the China charger you posted? I would be interested in pulling the trigger on the entire kit!

[Edit]: This turbo:

T25 T28 GT25 GT28 GT2871 GT2860 SR20 CA18DET A/R .64 Turbo Turbocharger RPF

This would be big enough for a 1.8l right?

phocup 06-16-2017 11:01 AM

What turbos are you guys running on the T2 ? I'm getting the TD04 setup from Kraken but seems that's not too popular right now. :)

.one lane 06-16-2017 11:11 AM

The popular ones are 2554 and 2560 on this forum but a T2 tap'd flange will support a variety of turbos.

This setup with a pimpy cast o2 housing and that nice 3" downpipe would be RAD with a 2554 on it. Monster street car.

Kraken 06-16-2017 02:34 PM

TD04L 13t and TD04HL are two different turbos

Kraken 06-18-2017 09:30 AM

Alright guys, to make things easier I will update the price list

I want to do the following
I'll do 6 manifolds for $290 shipped, this means 3 x 1.8 and 3 x 1.6. Tapped for T2 m10 x 1.5 or m8 x 1.25 / T3 also the same configuration

I am also doing 6 manifolds + downpipe + oil lines sets for $550 shipped, so that means 3 x1.6 and 3 x1.8. Downpipe will fit the following turbos T25 ca18det / T28 sr20det

Payment is done by Paypal and I do not accept payments sent as gift

I am not selling anything else for now until I get some feedback

Also if you guys use facebook find us at kraken mx5 manifolds

Kraken 06-18-2017 01:32 PM

So whats left is the following

2 x 1.8 manifolds
3 x 1.6 manifolds
2 x 1.8 kits
3 x 1.6 kits
