cheap: intercooler and lots of piping - 5 hours to go

eBay Motors: Probe V6 GT Mazda V6 Turbo Intercooler FMIC Kit Front (item 110344194710 end time Feb-04-09 16:25:44 PST)

Though it's for a probe/mx6/626, it looks like the IC will fit if that's overall size AND that's a lot of mandrel bends for the price, even if it's mild steel- ad doesn't say.

gospeed81 02-04-2009 02:12 PM

on it like spandex pants

Must have a few...

same seller.

Braineack 02-04-2009 03:50 PM

it seriously does look like it would fit minimal effort. heck the hotside pipes look nearly identical to mine.

too bad it's all 2.5" piping. but not a bad little kit for $150.

Turbo_4 02-04-2009 03:52 PM

Other than the coldside, it looks great.

zoomin 02-04-2009 04:29 PM

Doesn't look like a long enough radius in the bend to go around the radiator and condenser and still have room for airflow behind it. Could be wrong though.

94mx5red 02-04-2009 06:29 PM

$50 Shipping!

m2cupcar 02-04-2009 08:56 PM

Yes- so all that for $70 total. I think that's a steal. A few cuts and couplers could make this work in a Miata IMO. Oh- and that intercooler has some nice shaped end tanks on it for the core shape.

miatamania 02-05-2009 12:53 AM

Whoever picked that up, looks like a pretty good deal...just cut, some couplers, and bam. FMIC.

m2cupcar 02-05-2009 09:31 AM

gospeed81 02-05-2009 09:52 AM

I picked it up...but before seeing that ridiculous shipping fee.

Either way it still comes out to $70, and I've got more to work with.

This is certainly a lot easier than chasing down whatever I might be missing on a 14yr old kit.

I imagine a little cutting and coupling will definitely make it work.

deliverator 02-05-2009 09:53 AM

I'd prefer 3" pipes that aren't ceramic coated.

But, for the price that last one went for.... It would be hard to pass up.

gospeed81 02-05-2009 10:17 AM

Considering that what I have now is 1.75", this will be an upgrade. I didn't plan on doing it for a few months when I upgraded the compressor, but I'll admit it was an impulse buy.

3" charge pipes? who needs velocity....

TeamPLUR 02-05-2009 03:04 PM

I paid $150 for my Intercooler alone, from CXRacing, same Intercooler, just not polished. and no XSPOWER logo, that mush be good for. . what? 3 more hp? :greddy:
These are actually really nice.
Fits Great in the mouth of my NB,
Killer buy.

(quick mock up with string, only pic I have at work)

deliverator 03-02-2009 05:19 PM

I ended up picking one of these up for $71 shipped.

Arrived with a piece of crap, dented, 3" inlet/outlet, tube & fin intercooler.

Complained to the seller, no response to two emails over four days. Filed paypal dispute, that got his attention.

The replacement intercooler arrived today. It's perfect, 2.5" inlet/outlet, bar & plate- same as in auction picture. Cancelled the dispute.

It also came with a pair of 2.5" silicone couplers; nice bonus.

Took some battling, but it's a great value.

gospeed81 03-03-2009 12:34 PM

I am currently working on the same battle.

Hopefully he will start shipping them right the first time.

m2cupcar 03-03-2009 02:28 PM

did you have to return the dented IC?

Post up some pics when you get around to the install.

m2cupcar 03-19-2009 10:21 AM

Probably because you're going to get a POS intercooler shipped to you, then have to battle with them to get the right one sent to you.

JDMAflac 03-19-2009 11:40 AM

For an average of $7x.xx shipped i'll junk my jimB/starion setup for this one.

m2cupcar 03-19-2009 11:51 AM

as is with all things eBay - know your risk and know your threshold for pain ;)

The_Pipefather 03-19-2009 12:31 PM

dammit why didnt i see this before i picked up my evo intercooler for $75 shipped....

ah well the evo i/c is still bigger and I can do a killer over-the-rad setup with it.

1.8-m 03-21-2009 07:11 PM

my buddy got that intercooler piping/fmic from that dude... for 79 ship
and im looking at a few myself

ARTech 03-22-2009 12:03 AM

I'm the friend. piping is 2" hotside (long pipe) not 2.5 like stated in auction. It's also mild steel not aluminum. Other than that I can't complain for $76 bucks. intercooler is 3" thick and has 2.5" in/out, unlike other similar priced intercoolers, so that alone is worth the price. The piping, silicon couplers and 3" ss turbo inlet elbow just make it a sweeter deal

DragonsMaw 03-22-2009 08:46 PM

Just an FYI for anyone else who manages to get one of these. He sent me an invoice the same day trying to quote $126 for standard international shipping instead of the 79 he posted in the listing. Pay attention before you pay!

I sent him payment through paypal to the email address listed and I'll give him three weeks before I file a dispute or something though.

chance91 04-23-2009 10:14 PM

Anyone seen one of these lately? Can't seem to pull it up on an ebay search.

DragonsMaw 04-24-2009 06:02 AM

Looking back at my won auction says that "This user is no longer registered" though no reason is given. Not sure what happened but when I received it the sender was ssautochrome. The user was someone else though I can't recall the exact name anymore.

1.8-m 05-17-2009 02:06 PM

sweet.. i just paid for my probe intercooler kit and should see it in a week
after trying to get one ever time i would loss and this time my luck came up woot

DragonsMaw 05-18-2009 03:30 AM

Heh, they took the paypal account address off their page this time around. I'd buy one for resale if I could. Good to know they come back every once in a while.

1.8-m 05-18-2009 07:02 PM

when my buddy got his, it took me like 8 different time to win this kit and i looost ever time..and then this recent try baaam i got it, just gota be patient lol

chance91 05-18-2009 08:27 PM

Hey, they are back with a vengence. I just saw like, 5 on ebay running this search. Sweet action guys.
probe gt fmic intercooler, Parts Accessories - buy and sell on eBay Motors

DragonsMaw 05-18-2009 09:17 PM

All I did was set my max bid to $10 on one that was closing at some obscenely early hour of a saturday morning. Won it for 5.01.

Shipping killed me though, meh.

miataspeed2005 05-19-2009 08:17 AM

how good can this kit be for the price? How is he even making money selling them for $5? Any take the intake temps with this ic and see if they work?

m2cupcar 05-19-2009 08:45 AM

He's making his "desired" profit in the shipping cost. That's his guarantee that he gets what he wants from the sale. Speaking hypothetically, he could have $20 in the intercooler, $10 in the pipes and he's shipping them for $10 his cost. So $10 shipping profit plus all of the bid money. I'm assuming if it was totally useless you'd read about it in this thread from a buyer.

nickt93 05-20-2009 04:42 PM

Sweet - I won. All for the grand total of $5.50. Even with shipping, $55.50 is a steal for an intercooler and three pipes.

m2cupcar 05-21-2009 11:42 AM

Are you boosting the NB?

nickt93 05-21-2009 02:36 PM

That's the plan. I've got a turbo/manifold/downpipe from a Mazdaspeed, a Link piggy, a Turbo XS MBC, and now an intercooler on the way. I'll need to fab up an intake, fit/route the IC pipes, and run oil/water lines. Ahhhh, but first I need to get the car running!

b1m2x3 06-07-2009 10:13 PM

you guys ever receive these?
Worth it?

nickt93 06-08-2009 07:14 AM

I got mine - looks great. I'll take some pics and post them so you can check it out.

miatame 06-08-2009 09:03 AM

It is now a BIN of $150 plus $50 shipping...is that the same?

1.8-m 06-09-2009 07:22 PM

iv gotn mine. still in the box bc im moving from 1 city to another in 3weeks

zoomin 06-22-2009 05:42 PM

Any other reviews on this kit? Where are the mounting points on it?

DazedandConfused 10-22-2009 11:18 PM

anyone had success with using the piping from these kits and minimal effort?

p51hellfire 10-23-2009 03:09 AM

Necro post much?

DazedandConfused 10-23-2009 03:28 AM

haha. i would just like to know. saw that someone has this set for sale, and I am interested in some piping and ic, and this would be much cheaper alternative, but have yet to see any good news come from this.

p51hellfire 10-23-2009 03:36 AM

well like most ebay kits it diy as far as it working it isn't the next big thing if it was successful you would've already known about it

How about it's not even made for our car...

I had the kit in hand..and it had a few useful bends...but not everything you'd need. Also doesn't come with enough couplers etc. The intercooler is nice though...and the piping is decent.

DazedandConfused 10-23-2009 11:50 PM

i was really just wondering if it had enough useful bends and piping, so i can purchase a setup for cheap.

all i need is some damn pipes, couplers, and fasteners to complete my kit

p51hellfire 10-24-2009 11:42 AM

is that all you need? omg thats like 90% of the build..... grow some and go buy the fm one in the fs section... be done with it

slidder 10-24-2009 05:46 PM

nice. GLWS!
