Default FatCat Motorsport shocks - $1000

I've sold my 1995 NA Miata and have these left over.

Variant 1 shock, single-adjustable - coil overs

Front springs: 500 , Rear springs: 325

I think one the shocks needs a rebuild. They are $2200 to buy new. I'm willing to sell them for $1000 and ship them to FatCat, where they can be rebuilt, or I could ship them direct to you.

Thanks,
Will

What leads you to believe one shock needs rebuilt? Leakage, damage, rust on the rod?

I've sold the Miata, so of course, the coil overs are off the car. However, when I compress one of the rear shocks, it exhibits no rebound dampening during the last 3/4 inch of travel. It slowly expands then during the last 3/4 inch it springs up fast. There is no rust and no evidence of oil leakage. They are in great condition otherwise and have less then 12,000 miles on them.

I never felt an issues while driving I should point out.

I've talked with FatCat and they feel that the shock should be rebuilt but that it may just need more oil added. I'll share FatCat's prices for the fix, if you'd like them, privately.

Wow, great price on these and no lead time to get them (aside from the rebuild). GLWS.

You mention that these are single adjustable. Where are they adjustable?

They have a Schroder valve and I think that's why they are called single adjustable. I've never "adjusted" them.

Below is what FCM calls them:

"FCM Mazda MX5 90-05 monotube , Variant 1 shock, single-adjustable"

Damping adjustments (All version)
12. The earlier FCM Variant 1 shocks use an M8 x 1.25 adjusting set screw to give a range of
adjustment from full stiff (almost zero bleed/extremely high resistance) to 7 turns full from stiff. For
street use, we recommend experimenting with 3-6 turns, depending on how much comfort vs.
precision is desired. On smooth surfaces, damping can be increased.
