Prices are one of two things, either what you are willing to pay or what the seller is asking for the part.

 

Translation: "Sorry, I don't want to tell you, and I don't want to tell you that I don't want to tell you either. Have this statement instead."

 

Yeah, a simple "I don't really want to tell you that" would have sufficed instead of a bogus attempt at an econ lesson. He assumed I wanted to buy one, not sell one.
