This rubber came with the car. I am not sure how many previous heat cycles the old owner put into them, but he said they still have some life left. There are 2 tires is minor damage to the inner lip from the tire shop that dismounted them for the previous owner (see pics). They will still hold a bead without issue (per the shop). I have not run these, I plan to stick to sticky street tires with my car. Currently they are being stored.

At this time I want to try and avoid the PITA of getting a shipping quote. Lugging around tires to get an estimate on shipping is not really something that outweighs the annoyance of having them stored in my garage while I wait for a local buyer.... yet. I am sure my OCD will kick in sooner vs later... but for now I am still hoping local will save me the time of lugging them around.

 

1. Weigh one tire, x' by 4.
2. Strap them together the same way that you would stack and store them. Two per bundle, then all four together.
3. use this for your box dimension.
4. No actual box needed.
5. use the fed ex shipping calculator.

This is how I did it last time and it worked out well.

I've always used a box to ship tires, but come to think of it Tire Rack can't be bothered to box any of the tires they ship - they just strap them together and slap a shipping tag on them, maybe a little shrink wrap for good luck.

OK - Bump it up. Had time (and found a digital scale) so I can ship these now if required.

Amazon has some 48" heavy duty zipties for about $8 shipped that work perfectly for shipping tires. UPS even makes thermal labels with adhesive that is specifically designed to stick to auto tires, so they expect you to ship them out of box. Three per pair of tires, use the extras for auto-erotic asphyxiation, and ship tires cheap and easy.

 

Still waiting for a buyer. Shipping seems to be around $95 - $105 with FedEX. Assuming that i ziptie and plastic wrap them up into a 4-wheel cylinder with cardboard inserts. Unless someone has a better suggestion. My shipping specs are baised on this theory.

 

You don't need to wrap tires to ship, it'll probably be a little cheaper to ship 2x2 though

Also I checked on shipping 2 tires at a time. It was about $5 cheaper, but I am guessing that it will come out pretty even when all is said and done. So shipping 4 may be the better option.

 

you do not need to box tires to ship (this much is true) HOWEVER FedEx and UPS both charge a $7.50 surcharge (or maybe it has gone up to $8.50 now?) PER TIRE when not boxed for being non-standard.

I found this out the hard way TWICE in the past (it took 5 months to get a $30 surcharge on my credit card for this the 1st time) and the 2nd time I was 'billed' for it 7 months later and threatened to be turned over to a collection agency if I didn't 'pay up'

I'm told this surcharge is hit-or-miss (sometimes you get hit for it and other times you do not) BUT be warned it can happen!
