Garrett/Air research T3 Turbo

9 Attachment(s)
Hello all, got a new T3 turbo with 0.60 Compressor and 0.48 Turbine.

2.75" air inlet
2" air outlet

I bought this about 4 months ago hoping to use it but it won't fit because I think this one is from a Mercedes or Chrysler. It came with an internal wastegate adaptor kit with a larger 3 bolt pattern for the exhaust. I already purchased a BEGI mani and dp to use for a standard 5 bolt t3 turbo. A friend of mines modifed the wastegate housing to accept the small 3 bolt flange from the BEGI DP, but I had clearence issues since the housing is about an inch larger than your standard 5 bolt T3 internal wastegate housing. Fits on the mani no problem. Instead of modifying the DP to work with what I had, I just bought a new turbo.

Included in this sale is the T3 turbo, the internal wastegate housing, adaptor for the air inlet, 1/2" oil return fitting, and -4 AN oil inlet fitting. No wastegate actuator included. GET YOUR OWN!! :fawk:

Note: The internal wastegate housing has been modified to accept the smaller 3 bolt exhaust flange.

$300 shipped in the US

Just trying to recoup some of the money I invested.

the exhaust blades almost look like they hit something.

supersuk 05-02-2008 02:58 AM

Turbo wasn't even used. No bent fins. Spins freely

looks more like they aren't a standard t3 wheel, like stage II maybe.

super, can you remove the wastegate and measure the wheel for me?

m2cupcar 05-02-2008 09:47 AM

Figure out what size the wheel is and get a true "ford" style five bolt housing to fit.

Braineack 05-02-2008 09:55 AM

oh yeah, and take the compressor housing off and measure the inducer while you are at it.

supersuk 05-02-2008 02:23 PM

Ok i'll measure everything when I get home. Just started the day here in Hawaii. Frackin 8:30 and i'm grouchy. Got plopped with this unexpected business trip to Maui tomorrow so hopefully i'll remember to do it. Is there anything special that I also should measure? like the smaller part of the turbine/compressor wheel?

PM sent

wow, friggin great turbo for someone...
Do what M2 says, just get a cheap used housing to elliminate the funky flange ans IWG...that looks like an upgraded wheel.
If you decide to keep that flange on there, cut those bolts of and weld a Vband there...
good price

supersuk 05-02-2008 05:32 PM

Ha ha, too bad I already bought another T3 with the standard turbine housing. New one has the same specs but the turbine wheel looks to be smaller than this one.

Whats good about those "bolts" is that its studs that are on loose. The new owner can just remove them and have a v-band welded on no problem.

Braineack 05-02-2008 07:01 PM

depending on the size of the turbine I might want it.

m2cupcar 05-02-2008 08:52 PM

I heard somewhere that Mercedes OE turbines were uniquely sized - large than a stage one and small than a two. Of course that makes the exhaust side completely proprietary. You might be able to send begi the turbine housing and just have them drill the flange to fit the merc bolt pattern too.

supersuk 05-02-2008 10:28 PM

I've thought about redrilling the holes to match the standard 5 bolt but didn't know how to approach that. Maybe somehow fill the holes with either plugs or welding it and then redrilling it. I just thought that this would be a costly option which I didn't wanna pursue. Better just to buy one that fits and sell this one. Someone could fab their own dp to fit since mines was already made. I don't know how to weld and if I were to source it out it would be pretty darn expensive. Machine shops could prolly do it, but they charge an arm and a leg.

Ok, just got home and took some measurements.

The turbine measures 1.875"

The compressor measures 2.375" for the larger blades and 1.875" for the smaller ones.

Braineack 05-03-2008 11:44 AM

measures up to be a super60 trim compressor wheel. 47.6mm^2/60mm^2 = .63

turbine is most likely a Mercedes Stage 1.5, the inducer is larger and the blades are spaced, but the exducer is the same size as a standard stage I (1.89).

Can you measure the turbine inlet for me?

supersuk 05-03-2008 02:25 PM

Darn, sorry, but I already packed this bitch. :fawk: I have a gasket that is kinda similar in size to the turbine inlet, but it might not be that accurate cause I really don't remember. I don't wanna open the box cause I taped it up pretty well.

supersuk 05-03-2008 09:06 PM

Mods, please close this thread. The turbo has been sold. Mahalos
