Well, I've had this part for almost two years now, and never got around to using it, and I need $$ to buy tires for my new rims. It's a miniature 6" air/water intercooler that is designed as a pre-cooler for air/air intercoolers in Porsche. It's a very neat an unusual design, since it offers almost zero air restriction, has 8 coolant feeds on either end, and is super small. It would be a great addition installed on the hot side of some high horsepower miata. All you need is a pump and reservoir. I paid $300 for this. Asking $120US. Shipping to the US will probably be in the $20 range.

Here's a configuration where they used two of them, one before intercooler, and one after. You only have to use one of the coolant feeds/returns if you want to:

It's 2 3/4 inch in diameter. Could use some reducer couplings to mate it up to either a 3" or a 2.5"

Well it's straight through with no mesh, and it goes on the hot side of your charge pipe.

Coolant is almost certainly warmer than ambient.... You just invented the concet of an interheater.

Well not necesarily. If you have a seperate reservoir with some coolant in it, and a heat spreader (like an oil cooler), then you can get the coolant very cool.

We had a PWR air/water intercooler in a Toyota Starlett (weird RHD import), and the charge pipe after it was actually cold to touch and condensing. It was ridiculous. As long as you have a bunch of air going over the heat spreader, and a big enough coolant reservoir, then you're golden.

So does anyone want to buy this yet? :p

Please explain how an intercooler can cool charge temp to be less than ambient air temp, or, in other words, be more than 100% efficient. No points for suggesting ice on the IC, in the awic reservoir, or using water/meth injection.

I always thought it was weird when people hook air/water intercoolers to engine coolant...


I wonder how effective this thing is compared to a normal air/water intercooler. it may be helpful as a pre-intercooler, or on a low boost setup like mine. hmmm
