Default Quaife Wide Ratio 5 Speed Transmission (Atlanta)

Quaife 5 speed wide ratio transmission. Brand new, in box.

Flyin’ Miata sold their Quaife Transmissions for $3995 when they were first introduced plus a $450 core charge ($4445 total) (http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=272723). The gears alone sell for $2695 uninstalled, then add synchro rings, bearings, forks, and seals ($600) plus installation ($400-1000?).

I’ve never seen one of these come up for sale used, so this is a very rare opportunity to purchase the Quaife gearset at a much reduced price over new. This is brand new, never used.

This transmission came with a car that I purchased in May 2010. The previous owner had planned on installing it, but decided to sell the car before he had the opportunity. I am parting the car out…this is the first piece to go. Here is some more information about the car.

My build thread:
https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...t=59306&page=2

Original for sale thread here:
https://www.miataturbo.net/cars-sale-trade-6/1999-mazda-mx5-%2415000-47351/

An important note: when I bought the transmission, the seller told me that Quaife accidentally shipped the gear set with the input shaft for the RX7 gearbox which is a little shorter than the Miata input shaft. Quaife subsequently replaced the input shaft , however that is not currently installed in the gearbox. It will be included in the sale. I can’t say for certain whether the transmission will work as is with the ¼”-1/2” shorter input shaft – you’ll have to consult your favorite Miata transmission expert to find out for sure.

If you would like to estimate shipping costs, I will be shipping from 30316 and will drop off at FedEx or UPS. The transmission is boxed up and ready to ship – the box is 26x17x16 and weighs 85lbs.

$2000 + shipping.

Shipping Airbill from the outside of the box (declared value on the gearset is $3300!)

Still available (just listed a few hours ago). I'm going to Nashville for Thanksgiving and will pass through Chattanooga, so I could probably even deliver.

And not saying that I don't trust you, or the guy that sold you the gear box....I just don't trust anyone. Is there anyway to tell for sure that the gearset is installed in the transmission other than taking it apart?

After brainstorming for a bit I think I have answered my own question. Since the gear ratios in this set are different than stock I should be able to spin the input shaft and determine the installed ratios. If first gear is @2.5:1 rather than @ 3.0:1 we should be good to go.
