VIBRANT Intercooler - Bolt on custom intercoolers

10 Attachment(s)
I picked up a small number of Vibrant intercoolers, one as an upgrade for my car and figured I could save a couple of you guys some money if I made a few of them all at once.

This is the basic design to get things started - The final shipped versions will be fully reinforced and tig welded. This is a bolt in intercooler for the NB Miata.

This design keeps great ground clearance, good and high pipe routing and is ready for some big power setups. Recommended for the 250+ crowd.

For installation of such a big core you'll need to cut away some material outlined in this illustration. The intercooler will be complete with a better template:

Here is a photo next to the BEGI #3 intercooler.

Here is a photo of the mounting point. You can use the same location that the BEGI intercooler is mounted to.

As you can see it tucks up nicely behind the crash beam:

Since my intercooler is all boxed up from the move anyone have a pic of where the pipes locate on the FMII setup? Would like to compare to see if it comes remotely close. Wouldn't mind a better intercooler, but don't want to mess with hoses too.

Should be about 1-2 inches higher inlet and outlet. If I recall correctly the FM kit should have enough silicone to make these adjustments without much modification, if any.

Got a pic of it with the bumper on? I might dig mine out and gauge a ball park tomorrow. Would like one to replace my FM (smaller version) intercooler. The FM lines are all silicone. One for the hot side and two for the cold with a small metal piece for the BOV and AIT sensor just before the throttle. I like my hoses, can't weld, and not paying some local jack-hole to screw it up.

One more of these from the first batch left guys.

Do you think there would be any way to use the standard BEGi piping with it?

YES! You do need to change your coupler size though. The inlet is 2.5 on the new intercooler and the BEGi is 2 inch.

Another question just hit me, is it also compatible with a/c?

Absolutely - I still have AC on my car.

How much do you actually have to trim? Doesnt seem like much from the photos

xcoldricex 02-03-2013 07:48 PM

I'm local, will these fit a NA?

miatauser123 02-03-2013 09:55 PM

You don't need to trim a ton but its thick metal.

The share the same bumper support so I'd imagine. I'd like to test fit if you're able to make it out. Shoot me a pm and let me know.
