Default MS2PNP no start. Keeps toasting ignitors

MS2PNP v3.57 board running MSextra 3.4.2 1990 1.6 car
I'm on my fifth ignitor in this car and I'm about to quit ms before I go broke replacing them.
Total noob at this so bear with me. Haven't gotten to verify base timing cus toasty ignitor, just got a fresh one, about to check timing on stock ecu. I've done the joe spark mod per the instructions listed in his thread for the pnp. Spark out set to going high (inverted?). MS still fries the ignitor trying to get the car to start.
I also plan to upgrade to COP after I get the car running, just waiting on the harness plugs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is not an MSPNP Gen 2 but a pretty hacked up first generation unit. Check the spark output voltage with the ignition module unplugged - make sure it's zero volts with the key on and engine off.

Looks like I have 12 volts on the Vb pin for the ignitor and roughly 11.8 on the green pin for the coil pack, key on, engine off, ignitor unplugged. Something doesn't sound right.

Also checked base timing on stock ecu. Was about 5 degrees retarded. Rotated cas to set 10° tdc.

Still need to figure out why I'm frying my ignitors.

This one has a lot of mods we're not set up to evaluate - I'd recommend Peter Florance at PF Tuning or Jeff Linfert at Linfert Performance.
