NB MSPNP startup issues/fine tuning

Yes, another thread on this. Sorry but I can't find what I'm looking for. 99 Miata. Headerback exhaust, intake. Installed my PNP2 yesterday. I had some trouble starting it up first time but once started, ran fine. I set my base timing but didn't touch anything else. Today, I had some trouble getting it started. Had to throttle it a bit to get it going. Also, as far as "fine tuning" goes, what should I be adjusting if anything?

if you had to throttle to start, then your cranking table has too much fuel.

Also, when I'm setting my base timing, I set it to 10 degrees on the "fixed timing", burn & with my timing light, it shows I'm right at the mark. But when I go to change it to "use table", then burn, the timing light shows I'm off timing by about 7 marks.

what is that MS actually demanding at that point?

emericareaper2 05-20-2015 08:52 AM

Demanding? Sorry for misunderstanding. When I switch back to "use table" on my ignition advance gauge it shows 17 degrees. Whereas using the "fixed timing" it stays at 10 degrees

So I did find from another thread, the timing is okay. I'm supposed to leave it at use table. But I still need some help with cold starts & tips on fine tuning. What should I be adjusting?

Braineack 05-20-2015 09:04 AM

okay, and is the table set to 17°?

emericareaper2 05-20-2015 09:08 AM

Not sure where my table is. I set it back to "use table" & then adjusted the timing some more to get it closer to the timing marks. My ignition advance gauge reads 16 degrees timing

Braineack 05-20-2015 09:13 AM

lol.

you set it fixed timing in order to sync the timing to the MS. you defeat the purpose if you go back to use table and try to sync it again.

This would be like trying to set your idle speed while holding the throttle pedal open.

Jeeezum. The newb is strong today with me.

emericareaper2 05-20-2015 10:35 AM

So is it fine that the timing goes to 16 degrees after I switch to "use table" & then burn it?

You're gonna need to learn at least the basics before even touching your car. I suggest doing some reading.
Yes, "use table" means it will run what your table tells it to run, vs "fixed timing" means it will run what you set the fixed timing to be when you sync the ms to the engine.

not if your spark table was demanding 58°--but is it?

emericareaper2 05-20-2015 12:10 PM

No^

well wouldya look at that: it's commanding 16 and hitting 16

:)

emericareaper2 05-20-2015 12:27 PM

That's a good thing right? Lol do those tables look alright?

emericareaper2 05-20-2015 01:19 PM

Damn. Now the car keeps stalling for me. Takes several tries to get it started but keeps stalling.

18psi 05-20-2015 01:20 PM

you might want to tune the car then

emericareaper2 05-20-2015 01:27 PM

^Once again, how? I heard autotuning is what I should be doing but I have no idea where that is in Tunerstudio. I've been reading up today & still am not any more informed. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
