Hi guys,about four years ago I bought begi's s4 kit with the stainless steel manifold and its currently cracked on two of the exhaust ports. So I'm looking for a good replacement. I'm thinking about getting begi's newer s4 manifold that's made from steel. I've looked around and can't seem to find anyone who has purchased this manifold. I would like to know how long you have had it for or any problems you have had. I'm also open to other manifolds if you have any good suggestions, but I would like to keep my current s4 downpipe. The car is a 99 with a/c and power steering.

I know you didn't ask this but why wouldn't you just have them fix the current manifold?

 

Was about to suggest the same. Mine was refurbished, and while I haven't used it yet, it looks to be way more beefed up - apparently they've learned a couple things about reinforcing those specific areas at begi now.

btw most tubulars will crack. The super thick mild steel ones will probably hold up way longer, but in the end our engines vibrate like crazy and anything that's not a giant chunk of cast steel or made from unobtanium will crack. Brace everything properly, keep the revs down, and it will hold up for a longer time period. Or downgrade to the inferior cast log design

 

All manifolds crack, it's a case of how much resonance goes through the thing. I'd fix it and move on.

 

I did consider fixing it but its cracked pretty bad. Two of the runners are cracked at the flange. One of them is cracked about half way around the weld and the other is about a quarter of it. I've always thought that welding over a cracked weld wasn't that strong. Do you guys think that would last a few more years if I did that? I just don't want to get it welded and it only last a few months or a year.

If you offered me a refurbished braced old one for $100 or a new one for $600 I wouldn't even think about it.

This **** cracks. You repair it and move on.

 

18psi did you have begi fix that manifold? I was thinking that if someone was going to fix a cracked manifold they would just weld the crack. But it looks like yours have new piping welded to the flange and I like that idea a lot better, i can see that holding up a lot better than welding a crack. How much did it cost you to have that fixed?

 

I don't think we've seen a crack yet in the weld el mild steel manifold. I'm guessing they are 2 years old by now.

The weld el piece is more fun to make than you can ever imagine. What a hoot it is...................

I have one of the newer steel manifolds. Your going to need a new downpipe and possibly re-route the inlet and outlet of the turbo pipes.

There is a replacement for the old thing and it is interchangeable. Better idea to trade it in for the new A/O piece.
