I just got my car back together after a month off the road. Went for a drive and the BOV, which I believe is a Bosch unit (whatever begi uses), is making a fluttering turkey gobble sound. It never used to do this. Yes it's in the right way and it is recirculated. The only change to the car is going from a gt2860rs to a gt2560r. What could it be?

 

My 2560 made that sound before I installed a BOV. I had nothing before. Maybe the recirc valve is not working for some reason. Have you tested it?

So, just curious, why the switch from the 2860 to the 2560?

 

I couldn't keep the gt2860rs from overboosting no matter what I did. With EBC off and the gate adjusted so loose it was leaking at idle it would still hit 14psi+ with an 8psi actuator. I was beginning to get worried about EBC being totally useless in winter. I also found out the wastegate port was slightly misshapen enough to not allow the gate to close fully always.
I sent it back to Begi and decided since it's a street car it wouldn't hurt to have a turbo with a bit more low and midrange power where I spend most of my time. So far I'm happy with the change. Plus most importantly I can actually control boost now.

I think you might be right. Maybe what I'm hearing is compressor surge. How would I test the valve? I don't have an air compressor if that's needed to test it.

 

Think I might try spraying some teflon lube in the valve and make sure the vac line isn't pinched or anything.

 

You can pull a vacuum on the diaphragm port, the one that is hooked to the vacuum hose that goes to the intake manifold. Then pinch the hose to hold it open, and check to see if air can blow through the inlet-outlet ports.

I have a piston valve and not a diaphragm valve so I am no expert on this. But, it seems like the teflon spray would not help? You also want to be careful not to use something that will attack the diaphragm material.

The good folks at BEGI though always speak highly of the reliability of that valve, so it is more likely you have a pinched line or something like that.
