dp not clearing frame of car

I can't get my dp up to seat it into the turbo because the turbo studs are sticking out by .5 inches too long. Tried everything, destroyed some stud threads after trying to seat the studs further into the turbo, gave up, piss at more delays and $$$. Any ideas? As always, probably a simple answer, but help a guy out. :facepalm:

I'm hoping it wouldn't come to it, sent Steph a message and will be calling BEGi in the morning. I think it's a user error, not a hardware : /.

You know what, after thinking it over I think I over torqued the studs onto the turbo (instruction says 35 ft. lb). I think I can get the two bottom studs to clear, then simply add the top three studs later. IF I CAN get the two bottom studs to clear...sounds like a plan?

Or you take the turbo off the manifold, assemble it to the downpipe, then assemble it to the motor.

Haha, thanks Savington. I think that would work also! I guess thermal expansion will hold these studs on, but after reading that other thread w/ track cars I was paranoid.

Have someone stand on the passenger side of the car, reach over the valve cover, and pull the engine toward them. That'll net a little room for ya, maybe enough to get the dp on. FM has this in their turbo install instructions, but it's for getting the assembled turbo and manifold on, maybe it'll work for you too.

You could just remove the studs and use bolts.

OMG dude, it says how to do it in the instructions. BEGI has a pretty specific way of mounting the turbo into the car. Remove turbo from mani, slide DP onto studs, put turbo back on mani. Keep in mind you may have to remove the lower front turbo-mani stud to accomplish this.

Once everything is together, tighten in this order (from memory, so double check with instructions): Turbo-DP, then DP to cat, then turbo to manifold.

^Yup, it's important you tighten all the various components together IN THE ORDER BEGI SPECIFIES! There are a lot of people who have this problem, then they read the instructions and no more problem. If you're doing it right, and it still won't go together, take pics for us... maybe something we can spot.

I had the exact same problem getting mine to mate up due to the 3 bolt semi-spherical flange my exhaust side uses. I'm not gonna lie, the angle grinder fixes all...

Attach the top half of the downpipe to the turbo first, put turbo in place and then slip the bottom half of the downpipe on from below.

I'm having to do this with the 3" dp I just made today. The steering shaft is in the way just enough that I can't snake it down in there without a slip fit mid way.

Yes, I was pretty ---- about following the instructions. The manual says to slip turbo onto mani studs, then slip dp onto turbo studs, and not what you said, promise. Nothing's tightened down with the nuts, so it won't take long. Thanks for the idea, that's what I'm going to try first thing after I get off my night shift. I destroyed a lot of stud threads so far because of overtorquing. I'm paranoid as hell about it now.

I just saw your IM. If you need shorter studs give me a call. I have 10 in a box, lol.

As stated, you have to do it in the correct order. BUT, I had to notch the shelf a little bit when I installed the Shanghai on my 99. I actually did it after it was installed because it was rubbing right there and making a terrible noise. Do it now while you can, I had to drill a line of holes, hacksaw through them, and then file it smooth (thats the hard way).

btw, what the hell is up with your downpipe?
I got the mild steel version, but its a completely different design...
