Economical Turbo setup

Read most of the forums and posts but haven't gotten an answer to "What parts specifically would you use to put together a 8-10 psi boost turbo kit for a 2000 Miata?" A listing of parts would help. Which turbo ? etc. I see Flying Miatas kits but they are too expensive for my budget.

Anyone who has put together a piecemeal kit and who would list their parts would be great.

Thanks

I could make a recommendation but only for a 7 psi boost turbo kit

Yep, 8 psi or above makes it completely uneconomical with costs spiraling out of control.

thirdgen 03-23-2015 08:23 AM

What's your budget?

Leafy 03-23-2015 08:34 AM

What you want is, an FM turbo manifold, an FM downpipe, a GT2560R, an FM coolant and oil hose kit, FM intercooler kit, an FM hydra, some vacuum hose, and an FM exhaust.

Wait he also needs a BEGI racer reroute.

I found 6.8psi was my ceiling. The next 0.2psi was going to be rough on the wallet.

Monk 03-23-2015 09:27 AM

Ignore, these guys, they're just trolling you.
Flyin Miata and Begi stuff is outdated.
What you really need is a greddy kit.
Some of the ebay stuff is really good as well. I would buy this manifold to start with: Baller JDM mainfold
You're going to need something like a Sebring boost controller too, but a powercard is just as good, maybe better.

Girz0r 03-23-2015 10:37 AM

Source parts from Ebay. Cause you're broke. :bigtu:

You can follow this Build for tips.

Enginerd 03-23-2015 01:22 PM

I'd begin with a new Internet connection. It appears your isp is blocking out all of the prior threads on the topic.

sixshooter 03-23-2015 02:08 PM

BEGi Shanghai kit is the cheapest option.

baustx 03-23-2015 05:03 PM

Gonna need a new, stouter clutch in your budget for any kind of boost over 7.

I'd play it safe with the 6.8psi i mentioned earlier. Stock clutch will be fine for that. 7.01psi, the stock clutch slips and burns up.

turbofan 03-23-2015 07:19 PM

I dunno though, for some reason whenever I hit even 6.9 psi I get eggplant, so you're even cutting it close there.

I think eBay is the best route, those kits are engineered for a safe boost level out of the box. Before they started doing that they would just break all the time, but the newer ones have a safeguard built in for less fail.

Rallas 03-24-2015 12:33 PM

Don't forget that Ebay kits no hit blocks and fit much better too.

joyrider 03-24-2015 03:49 PM

Hey I do have a racer reroute somewhere in my garage an I do have a link piggyback ecu plug and play for a nb1

Cheap cheap...

wred 03-24-2015 04:44 PM

You need to be careful with eBay though. Sometimes you see the old, outdated parts from Begi and FM being sold alongside the hella legit stuff because the owners didn't have the sense to spend just a lot less for Baller JDM parts. It's easy to get confused.

rleete 03-24-2015 05:46 PM

Don't listen to these fools, they're just playing with you.

The secret is, for less than 10 PSI, supercharging is the way to go. All the cool kids know it, but they won't admit it in public.

I've gotten PMs from people with zero posts before. Not sure how the system works.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 03-24-2015 07:10 PM

Im not sure. Maybe if youre around long enough you can PM regardless of post count?

Dont forget the vice grips to clamp the return fuel line for fuel control.

Almost laughable, but at the same time sad.. "search noob" apparently isn't in the line of sight for some...

titangts1 03-25-2015 11:13 PM

comical thread.

I will admit this. The brand new T3 CX-racing top mount 1.8 kit...that manifold and downpipe is nice hell.. insanely thick material too. CX has dramatically step their game up!.
