Default Flyin' Miata Stage 1 kit for NA8 -> upgrade ignition? Fueling?

Hi all!

Planning to install the FM Stage 1 turbo kit (the CARB legal one) on my 95M (just turned 78K miles!). Aside from improved cooling and clutch, is there anything else I should look to upgrade? I am planning on getting an oil cooler kit for track day use, but wondering if I need to explore improved ignition (someone said to check MSD) or fueling (will stock injectors, fuel rail and pump suffice)? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

What are your goals?

Assuming you're using FMs Stage 1 kit with their fuel management system, you should be fine with stock fueling and ignition. Make sure you have decent plugs and wires (manylmany recommend NGK).

Goal is to have fun, occasional track day, mainly backroads. I've exited the heavy modding game after my MK6 GTI (APR Stage 2 with tons of goodies) - so I will not be looking to tune or improve upon the FM1 kit (yup will be using their fuel management system) but rather want to ensure it will not be bottlenecked.

The stock ECU is the bottleneck. The Voodoo boxes piggyback off that. So that is what limits you.

Alright - makes sense. Some better spark plugs + wires should be good to go then

Another question:

My (currently NA and otherwise stock) car has a Magnaflow CARB legal cat (PN 332105) - it is a 2.25" universal unit but with proper flanges welded on to bolt to the stock header. The FM1 kit comes with a 2.5" DP - so would that mean I would need to get a new 2.5" flange? Or should I get a 2.5" cat? Or....???

Thanks

I would assume you'd need to get a 2.5" cat, or else that would be the next bottle neck coming down from the DP. I'm installing this kit now. Just did the clutch on Sunday and have began removing the header today. Still have to drive the 500 mile break in period for the clutch... so after everything is installed- I still won't be able to get into boost until after a few days of driving. Excited though. Hows yours coming along?

Before I put on the turbo kit, I replaced all the old gaskets and filters. Last thing you want is a coolant leak in mid boost pull.
