Sorry in advance for the annoying questions but....

For those of you that used the FM 2.5 turbo exhaust setup, which gaskets did you use? I grabbed a random one from autozone when I installed things months ago and it seems to be leaking now... I had called FM at the time and they told me to just use whatever was the right diameter, but I don't think that it should be leaking already. I'm trying to go through and replace everything just to see if I can get rid of this exhaust leak.

 

Where is it leaking at?

 

Looks like a V-band clamp was a bit loose so I tightened that and put in a little blue loc-tite to hold it there.

I used a piece of rubber pipe to listen around for leaks and surprisingly the exhaust gaskets weren't all that bad. I did hear quite a bit of air leaking at the exhaust manifold though, which is annoying since those bolts are a ******* pain to get to. I hope the manifold or exhaust gasket there didn't warp somehow.

 

I use the 3" exhaust, FM told me to use Permatex Ulta copper RTV:

I've had no luck finding gaskets locally , the bolt spacing seems to be some weird spec . The universal ones I used that were "close " lasted a couple of months. In the end I just ordered a half dozen from FM with my last order. Easier just to stock a few. And that's the train of thought that enables you to have a house that's swamped in Miata spares....

 

The FM 3" exhaust that I have was made by Thermal, and they appear to have used Vibrant stainless flanges. Summit sells gaskets for them.

I have used red gasket maker on all my normal flanged exhausts for as long as I can remember. It always seemed to work better then real gaskets for me. Just let it dry for a bit before you start up the car.

 

Sounds good! Thanks guys. On further inspection, i.e. getting under the car with it running for a minute. I used a pipe to listen around and the gaskets weren't all that bad. The V-band had a bit of a exhaust leak and I heard a bit of leak coming from the manifold... I'll see if I can tighten it up a bit. I'd be shocked if it warped!

 

The bolts have most likely loosened with heat cycling/vibration. Tighten down the manifold bolts.
