FM fitment issue w BOV
I've got the older FM kit. Got everything together except the BOV.
Seems like if I rotate the inlet piping so that I can attach both ports of the BOV to the inlet and outlet piping, the air filter is sticking well above the hoodline. If I rotate the inlet piping so that the air filter sits where it's supposed to in order to clear the hood; the BOV ports won't reach the inlet and outlet piping together. I've tried loosening everything and starting over and I just don't see how I can get it to line up properly. My quick and dirty solution is to get a longer silicone hose that joins the BOV to the inlet and outlet pipes. Is this a potential problem? |

I wouldn't be suprised if I goofed something up...but I tend to take my time so I dunno. I'm not complaining too much since I bought the kit used for a decent price.
If I paid new price for this, I'd be a little annoyed. Because I've got AC/PS it seems stuff doesn't like to fit. The air filter baffle and turbo heat shield definately ain't gonna fit. I'm sure the latest kits are nicer. |
. . .and that piece of hose you have sitting on your valve cover won't breech the gap and be clampable? Maybe get a longer piece of hose, OR, one of the same diameter with a slight bend? OR, a piece of silicone?
Interesting way to install the recirculating BOV over other installs. It to some degree sure makes better sense for the purpose of short coupling between the TB and inlet side, usually it is located closer to the TB then plumbed over to the inlet side. What does your TB side plumbing look like? Got pic? |
have you reversed the turbo inlet pipe maybe?
or maybe you need to clock your turbo a little? |

Looks like you need to make a parts run for a longer piece of hose and give that a try.

BOV's/recircs usually are put over on the TB side because it was a convenient place with a little space to accomodate it AND away from the heat heading toward the TB/or intercooler. I guess the heat doesn't really come into play with the BOV, meaning it can handle it?? With so many BOC's using a fiber piston, makes one I really wonder about the lifespan of the BOV's components.
Can't see in the pics how the vac line is routed or where it connects, probably will need a flow control valve in-line with it too? If one did not come in your kit, add that to your parts run stuff. Nice looking setup in either configuration otherwise. |

I actually got it from Advance Auto Parts.
http://www.designengineering.com/pro...sp?m=sp&pid=32 They advertise it for protecting starters and other components. It won't fit around the turbo and I'm just kinda draping over it. Haven't ran the car yet but the one you linked up looks like a better option for the turbo. Then I can use this one as a firewall for the heater hoses and master cylinder. Looks like they use the same material for both items |
