fuel pump Q?
ok should i go with a 190 or 255? will the 255 be over kill? will it even run with a 255 installed? i am planning on uping boost to 8psi and running 1.8 injectors. i have the msd timing unit and fmic . also will the walbro for the 94-97 work with my 91?

Some one never read the FAQ https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4288 as long as you have been here you should know this by now.

The fuel pumps are interchangable.
The Walbro 190lphHP is good for about 140psi with an AFPR. For several months, I was running 1.8's at 10psi @120psi fuel pressure for a butt dyno of about 170whp. It was fairly rich, but fairly safe too. |
I believe the 190lph HP is the most commonly used around here. If I remember correctly I ordered the one for the '94-'97.
I just replaced mine yesterday and I was actually able to still use the original bottom retaining plate and all original hardware by using a small 1/4" spacer and a longer machine screw at the bottom. Thread Hijack: Does anyone know why the Walbro uses that little insulating sleeve? The OEM pump doesn't have a little sleeve and I've never seen anyone use it on their Walbro installation. Just curious. |

I always find the 255lph on the Impreza boards for about $74-$80 shipped, most of them can get other applications as well.
|
ok i looked at there site and didnt see a 190lph hp for the miata. the only thing i saw was a 190 lph for the miata as a install kit or the 190 lph hp as just the pump. if i get just the pump what else will i need to install it?
|
never mind i found it thanks guys.
|
ima stick with stock untill i get bigger injectors and really start boosting =)
|
it's not going to help you much if you can't control the bigger injectors....
FWIW, most of us using stand-alone ECUs use the stock pump and have plenty of fuel for 300rwhp.... it's all about chosing the right fuel pressure, injector size, and controlling device. A 255LPH fuel pump is not going to magically unlock hidden HP, it's job is to supply the fuel rail with enough fuel for the injectors to spray, that's it. So only think about a new pump untill:
|
i think that rev has a good point about that topic
|
curiously.
Must we buy it as a kit or is the pump itself good enough? Also Lightning motorsports lists it as a kit for 94-97 miatas. Is it also suitable for a 1993 NA6? |
Bare pump is all you need. You can use the stock sock, connector and rubber insulator. The pump is a bit longer so you'll have to bend the bottom bracket a bit.

The pump is slightly longer, and parts from the kit make it easier to install. It also includes a new intake filter which almost impossible to remove from your old pump without breaking it(the filter).
|
mine always comes with a backwards filter one of these days i will get the right filter on there mine have never been seized in place though.
|
So I would summarize to say that the bare pump is all that is really needed, but the kit is preferred?
Any good place to recommend for its purchase? |
