Default Greddy TD04 replacement

The mx5 has been smoking rather a lot, if you let it idle is eventually starts to puff lots of white smoke, i took the turbo off and fitted a standard manifold, standard the car and no smoke. so this seems to suggest the turbo is causing the problem. There is a fair bit of play in the shaft, just wondering what are the options now. The car has a 440cc injectors, Emerald ECU, saab intercooler on a 1.6 stock engine with some flowing of the ports.

Wondering if there is a upgraded version of the turbo, would it be worth it on a standard engine? I did a search and found someone fitted a larger compressor housing, but mine would need new shaft as well.

Recommendations?

I guess it really depends on your budget but I would say now would be a good time to get a new turbo, manifold, and downpipe. If not, I would either get your current greddy rebuilt or try to find a used one (think there's a few for sale in the for sale section right now). The greddy is good for the 200hp range.

Currently running 9psi, I'd rather not buy a whole new set up and really can't afford that, just wondering if there was a better turbo which would work with the current set up.
