Default HKS turbo kit for 1.6 Q's

Hello,

I m new, my name is Achilleas from Greece.

I recently bought a used HKS turbo kit for 1.6 Miata

Anyone had experience with the above mentioned kit?

Does the kit fit a 1.8 engine (friend wants to know)?

Is the F-CON Mini included in the kit allready programmed?
Is it re-programable? Where can I find an installation manual?

Thank you in advance.

I include some pics of the kit.

And some extras

I don't know anything about the F-con. Try google search???? You might can find a forum that is familar to them. ( Is that made by greddy? You can get help online through their website if it is GReddy.)

As far as differances between the 1.6 liter and the 1.8. The manifolds are different. And there are a few diferances between the the years on 1.8 liter setup's.

A post that will answer alot of questions is https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4288

GOOD LUCK! And Welcome to the DARSIDE.......!

The f-con is made by HKS....see that big HKS printed right above the "f-con" on the unit he's holding? I don't know much about these either, and I doubt many on this forum will given we're all about Megasquirt.

Like Toddcod said you will need another manifold and also a downpipe to make this work with a 1.8L motor. You didn't get an intercooler with the kit?

Thanx for the answers.

No, kit doesnt come with i/c. I ll have one custom made.

Well, all I know about the F-Con is that you can tune fuel +/-16% and advance +/-4 degrees.

I dont know if its allready tuned for the car (it has the specs on a sticker on it, writing NA6) and I dont know if/how I can change its program.

The f-con Mini is a very basic fuel piggyback, I had one on my first turbo Miata and it was rock solid with 6psi. I might be able to find a wiring reference. Get me a better picture of the wires and I will look into it. Mine was from the early 90's and not sure if the wiring changed much.

Dude, you need to resize your pictures, it won't even fit on my screen!! But mine uses 8 wires and I will look at it tomorrow to see if they are all the same.

Call up HKS, ask them for a wiring diagram if the dude you bought it from didnt give you one or try the HKS site. To answer your other question, if it came with the kit you bought its probably ready to go. Googling shows that you can get new ROM chips for it and nothing else.

The person i bought mine off said you had to retard the base timing a few degrees. Not sure if this is true or not?

That could be true, depending on what your timing is set at right now. Going by the post higher up that said it would do +/- 4 degrees of timing, this would put it at 6 degrees if you were at the factory 10 degree mark. But since a bunch of people go to 14, you'd probably have some issues.

I have found a partial wiring instruction for the ecu. My question is does it wire directly to the wires(cut to ecu) or does it just splice into them and share with the ecu ?

difficult to say cut it or splice it,
for example, airflow signal almost cut it and connect to IN and OUT of the external ECU,
but RPM and electric +/- signal almost splice into the orignal wires.
