If you have no major damage then yes. But if you fraged a piston this site sells a full rebuild for 300 some odd $ http://www.rpmmachine.com/engine-reb...ts-mazda.shtml check them out. If you pull the motor and have this stuff then it would probably take another day or so to install all this new stuff.

yeah like this:

or this:

check out http://www.importperformanceparts.net/ for cheap parts. (4) oem type pistons with rings = $140

neogenesis2004 10-22-2007 01:57 PM

a used bottom end will be cheaper than replaing internal parts. consider that a universal truth with any motor if you can't/dont trust yourself doing the work. The machine shop bill alone without assembly is going to run you $400 minimum for a 4cyl I would say.

magnamx-5 10-22-2007 02:00 PM

My assembly was 250$ totall. If he doesn't need to bore it out a simple bottle hone will run 100$ or less. Or could be done be him very easily.

neogenesis2004 10-22-2007 02:04 PM

Based on current posts in this thread I don't think he should be doing it himself.

Braineack 10-22-2007 02:04 PM

sears stocks a craftsman engine honing tool ;)

magnamx-5 10-22-2007 02:09 PM

Neon a bottle brush hone is not a bore out it is just a rescape of the bores it is dead simple i dunno. I think even a FM fan boy could run one with little to no supervision. Engine boring i agree on the other hand is most def something to be done in a machine shop with tools and experienced peeps.

neogenesis2004 10-22-2007 02:33 PM

If his bores look like mine did after my ring land broke then a hone is gonna make him loose by the time he sees smooth surface again. If you want to keep recommending noobies take apart their motors and rebuild them then by all means go ahead.

magnamx-5 10-22-2007 02:42 PM

Mine was pretty smooth despite the failure i was actualy quite surprised. Of course i don't recomend he try to bore it out with a hone but if there is little to no damage then the hone is a good idea. I am mostly sugesting that it is not as bad as some people make it out to be when you take a engine apart.

drftem 10-22-2007 03:06 PM

wow mr neo. who is the newb? and you wouldnt suggest i pell the motor apart why? because im asking questions? im sorry but for your knowledge ive torn down and built up a motor or two. ive done a stock rebuild on a bug motoor and my last car was a all motor drag protege that i built up myself.

Braineack 10-22-2007 03:08 PM

then this thread is fairly pointless for you then, correct?

magnamx-5 10-22-2007 03:17 PM

xnay on the ass say dr he was just being funny. chill out

Braineack 10-22-2007 03:46 PM

I don't think Brian's comments are out of line. or my amazing wit.

drftem 10-22-2007 03:47 PM

ok so i guess ill check out the junk yard and ill pull my head off and see what it looks like. heres another question. if the cylinder has no major scores and i dont see any wedged rings like in that picture then i should be fine just replacing the rings? or would you suggest replacing the pistons also? im looking for the cheapest route so i can get it running again. then once i get this job ill be rebuilding it completely.

neogenesis2004 10-22-2007 03:48 PM

Ok senor 1337, build away. You'll get so many "while your at its" that you'll end up spending $3k when you just need a $200 shortblock.

Shortblock replacement from a yard will be hands down the cheapest solution. I even have a oem hg I'll send you for s&h and tickling my balls.

Braineack 10-22-2007 03:52 PM

:bigtu:

drftem 10-22-2007 03:54 PM
